Worked there in the past and the food is unbelievably good. Especially sausage red beans and rice. Desserts are home made and super delicious, (gotta try the red velvet cake!) Some pics of my coworkers on my last day, great people and I miss them terribly. When in Houston, try Treebeards you won’t be disappointed

Sooo disappointed. This used to be my go to place 15-25 years ago when when I was working downtown. Now I am back again working in one of the towers. 10 coworkers and I went to Tree Beards today and ALL WERE NOT IMPRESSED. Basically no cheese and salt on the mac and cheese. 4 including me threw our macaroni out. 1 wasted side item. My coworkers bland gumbo was toooo thick til it reminded me of stew instead of gumbo. All you tasted was roux ( I think if they would have just added a lil more broth or water AND SEASONING, it would have been great. My other coworker paid for the large red beans and sausage, and lol it looked like they gave her a half of a half of sausage and it was bland toooo. BASICALLY THE SIZE OF MY THUMB LOL. Well next month and from here on out, not going back. We are going to decide and try something new. A lot of the old restaurants have really lost their touch. OMGGGG

I used to eat at the old downtown church location back in the 1990s when I worked downtown, and this was one of my go-to places. I absolutely loved the food. Well, if anybody knows me, they know that I’m a food critic and that I visit many food establishments. Well, yesterday, Monday, June 5, 2024, I visited the Katy Freeway location, and I was highly disappointed . The service was good, and the location was visually inviting. But, to my surprise the food was very . For starters, the bowl of gumbo was absolutely without flavor. Not a taste of gumbo fil’eand definitely lacking flavor and seasoning (very bland). Secondly, the red beans and rice were tasteless and very bland (no seasoning), and to add insult to injury, the cornbread was very dry. The only reason I gave them one star is because the Butter cake was delicious . I will visit again for a retry.

I went to this particular location located in the tunnel on my lunch break 6-21-2024. I got the special which was Chicken Fried Chicken, Dirty Rice, and Mash potatoes. I starting eating already but the presentation was messy. Overall I don’t get the hype, all of the above items I ordered lacked flavor and it was not even hot. This gives the idea that Southern food is bland and lack luster.

This is by far the best food in the tunnel and easily the best deal as well. I walk to this location at least once per week and have never been disappointed. Everything on the menu is delicious and my go-to meal is red beans and rice with sausage ($3.95). Can’t beat it.
