I had a shocking, disappointing experience at Tree of Life, a venue I’ve frequented in the past, but unfortunately, the quality of both food and the overall atmosphere has significantly declined.
Initial Experience:
Upon arriving, we were seated near a group of people smoking cigars (tompus) in the outdoor area. This seemed excessive and uncomfortable, especially considering the impact it had on my smoke allergies. Is smoking in outdoor areas of restaurants even legal in Miami? Regardless, we requested to move, and thankfully, the waitress accommodated us by relocating our table. I do appreciate this level of service, but it’s concerning that such an issue was allowed to begin with, especially in a supposedly high-end location.
Food Quality:
After moving, we ordered the blend burger, chicken avocado salad, and shrimp tacos. It took over 40 minutes to receive our food, which is understandable on a busy day, so I won’t complain about the wait.
Shrimp Tacos: These were fine, but nothing “wow” special. Just basic, normal tacos.
Blend Burger: Completely mediocre. It was way too salty—so salty that it was impossible to enjoy and finish it.
Chicken Avocado Salad: This was downright awful. The avocado was dry, the chicken was flavorless and overcooked, and the entire dish was unpleasant. It was shocking, especially given that we’ve always enjoyed meals here in the past. The food quality has significantly declined since our last visit, and this experience was outright unacceptable.
Service:
To their credit, the waitress apologized for the subpar meal and removed the salad from the bill. She was polite and professional, but the poor food quality was not even her fault. The service was fine, but unfortunately, it didn’t make up for the disappointing meal.
Final Thoughts:
For such a renowned establishment at the luxurious Faena Hotel, this was a huge letdown. Between the uncomfortable cigar smoke and the drastically poor food quality, I can’t justify recommending Tree of Life at this point. Faena has always been associated with high standards, and it’s sad to see them fall short on both ambiance and cuisine. I sincerely hope they reconsider their smoking policies and focus on elevating their food back to the caliber one would expect from a brand of this prestige.
One star, and I’m not likely to return unless significant improvements are made.
Diana, our server, was a rockstar. Ambiance nails that lazy Sunday sweet spot, even though we went on Saturday during lunch: upscale yet chill
If you like butter, the butter here is divine
But the real star of the show? Betsy. Her warmth, attentiveness, and charm elevated the entire experience. A memorable afternoon that I’d happily repeat!
