A fabulous Italian outing! Trattoria Demi transports you to the cobblestone streets of Italy with its interior decoration and cozy atmosphere. The servers were extremely friendly and helpful. Also, if you’re a Northwestern student, show your student ID for 10% off your entree! We got their best seller, the asiago stuffed gnocchi, and the rigatoni primavera for our mains along with a basket of bread. The bread was warm and delicious with bright olive oil and salted butter. The gnocchi was topped with a crispy chicken parm, the sauce was so rich and smooth, and the gnocchi pillows were incredibly soft and bouncy. The rigatoni was seasoned well and very light. For your birthday, the desserts are half off, so we finished our meal with the limóncello créme brule. It had a strong lemon flavor, and the custard was the perfect consistency. Trattoria Demi is the ideal place for a delicious meal for a reasonable price and large portions!

another birthday dinner down the drain for Evanston. came here tonite for a birthday dinner. very disappointed as we had been hear once before for almost two years ago. We started off with the fried calamari and the octopus appetizers, I had the chicken parmesan and my son had the shrimp scampi with linguine. let’s start with the starters the calamari was rubbery and chewy and bland the octopus was acceptable, the chicken parmesan first off the chicken was dry, and absolutely no flavor on the chicken, the breeding was borderline soggy, the worst part was the sauce on the pasta, it was literally sour tasting, acidic crushed tomatoes, with no seasoning or flavor whatsoever, not even salt, the marinara sauce that came with the calamari was very spicy but definitely had more flavor than the so called sauce on my pasta. how can you even call his marinara. my sons scampi was also flavorless and bland, the best part of the meal was the bread and butter, unfortunately…were done with this place

Trattoria Demi in Evanston is an absolute gem! I went with a large group of 10, and everyone had a fantastic meal and a great time. The staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive, which made the whole experience feel special from start to finish.
The restaurant itself has a cozy, intimate vibe—small, charming, and perfect for conversation. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the atmosphere and the food.
I ordered the tagliatelle with truffled wild mushrooms, peas, and ricotta salata, and it was outstanding. The homemade pasta was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Truly one of those dishes you keep thinking about after you leave.
Highly recommend for date night, small gatherings, or even a larger group like ours. We’ll definitely be back!

On a recent trip to Chicago, my daughter and I decided to stay in a suburban hotel in Evanston. It was located a short distance from Wilmette where we had lived for some 20 years. After a nostalgic visit reviving memories from the past we returned to our hotel and decided to find a local restaurant to have lunch at. A few blocks from the hotel we spotted what appeared to be a quaint Italian Restaurant called Trattoria Demi. As we entered, the aroma of Italian food and the atmosphere seemed to indicate we had made a good choice. Having spent time in Italy during my military career, I was well versed in Italian food but especially pasta choices. We both decided on the Bucatini with Broccoli. Our server displayed great customer service as he scurried from table to table serving dinners. When our lunch arrived, we were both impressed with the presentation and the salad that came with the pasta. It was definitely “Al dente” and so flavorful we jokingly talked about extending our stay so we could eat there again. This small but intimate restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip.

Overall good restaurant. The atmosphere is great, and we were able to find a table immediately. The pasta was fantastic, some of the best I’ve had, but I wouldn’t recommend the pizza. Come here for the pasta however and you’ll have a great time.

This is a wonderful Italian restaurant in downtown Evanston. It’s quaint and has all the charm of a Italian restaurant like back in the home country. The food is excellent! My wife and I have been to many restaurants and this one meets all the expectations of a fine restaurant that is worth every penny. Be sure to put this place in your list! Venite a gustare il cibo!
