When I picked it up, they gave me the wrong cake (Ping Fong). We assumed the correct cake was inside the box, but once we got home we realized it wasn’t what we ordered. To make it worse, the cream/frosting was broken and messy when we opened it (I’m attaching a photo). We live far away and had guests already there, so there was no time to return and fix it. My daughter was obviously disappointed, and it put a shadow on her birthday.
The next day I went back to explain what happened. The cashier’s response was essentially: “We can’t do anything.” No meaningful apology, no remake, no store credit—nothing. Even worse, they didn’t even refund the price difference, because they gave us a smaller cake than the one we ordered and paid for.
Mistakes happen. But refusing to take responsibility after ruining a child’s birthday is unacceptable. We used to buy cakes here for every birthday in our group. That stops now, and I will make sure others know what to expect if they order a custom cake here.
To make it worse, the cake we received was noticeably smaller even though we paid the same price as the larger Baby Shark cake we ordered. Quality was also disappointing: the cream inside was broken/curdled, the strawberry flavor tasted off, and it felt like a poorly made substitute. (Also, the Baby Shark cake we ordered was supposed to be chocolate, which we did not receive.)
The next day, we went back to explain what happened. Instead of apologizing and making it right, the staff basically said they couldn’t do anything and bluntly suggested we should’ve told them earlier. Earlier? We were literally in the middle of a birthday party and found out only after opening the box at home.
At minimum, this situation warranted a refund or at least reimbursement for the difference in size/value—but we got nothing. This is not how you handle your own mistake, especially when it ruins a child’s birthday. I will not buy anything from this store again. Good luck with treating customers with this way.
