We had a great lunch. I had a Caesar salad. It was huge with tons of cheese and homemade croutons. The dressing was light and flavorful. Hubby had a sandwich that was grilled cheese with pulled pork and a fried egg on Texas toast. For his side, he got the beans and rice. The beans and rice were delicious. Great flavor — some of the best we’ve had. The sandwich was really good but a bit dry. It would be better with some barbecue sauce. Our server was friendly. We loved the place and definitely will return.

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience here that people should be aware of. I came in for brunch and ordered the French toast and grits.
The real issue happened when it was time to pay. They are apparently one of the few establishments in 2026 that does not accept tap-to-pay. I went out to my car to check if I had my card or enough cash on me, but I didn’t have either. I came back in and asked the waitress if I could possibly Zelle or Cash App a staff member and have them run their card for me. She said she would ask.
That’s when things escalated.
A woman came out and told me I would need to leave my ID and go get cash. I explained that I didn’t think I had my ID on me. She then said, “Well you need to start getting your shit together next time you’re out,” and began arguing with me. I later found out this was the owner of the restaurant. The interaction was completely unprofessional and unnecessarily rude. Instead of diffusing the situation, she escalated it.
They eventually sent someone else out to speak with me. I calmly explained that I was willing to leave something and go get the money — I just wanted to understand why I couldn’t send money electronically to resolve it quickly. The response I got was, “The easiest way is if you just had your card.” I made it clear I wasn’t trying to argue, just asking a question. She then became argumentative as well and asked me to leave my headphones as collateral. I couldn’t because I was on the phone. I offered to check my car for ID, and she questioned whether I would even come back — despite the fact that I had just gone to my car and returned.
At that point, my integrity was being questioned. I ended up leaving my phone, retrieving my work ID, going to get cash, and returning to pay. The entire situation was completely avoidable. A little professionalism and basic customer service would have made all the difference. Instead, the experience was stressful and unnecessarily confrontational.
I would not recommend dining here. The food isn’t worth the price, time, or treatment. The restaurant is, unfortunately, a reflection of its owner.

Absolutely delicious! It’s such a fun place with indoor or outdoor seating options. I went in for the Sunday brunch and had a Ms. Lois, with pan-fried shrimp. The fried grit cakes were so tasty, and I wasn’t sure how I would feel about them. The biscuit was melt in your mouth goodness.

I have been a regular customer for years. Always friendly and I have always enjoyed their menu. The brunch menu and lunch menu are always great! The dinner menu is a little different but offers some wonderful entrees. I think they have the best crab cakes in town.

We had such a great experience! I am a bit picky when it comes to coffee creamer and only like flavored creamer our sweet server brought me some of her personal flavor she keeps there for her! I thought that was so kind and nice of her. Our food was fresh and hot and delicious. I had the Monte Cristo and my gracious it was delicious. It was our 20th anniversary and we started our day off with brunch and it made the day so special! Thank you so much!!!

Brunch was amazing. Our server was extremely attentive even though she was very busy. She even found very late(1:45) that it was my wife’s birthday and had the kitchen make a treat for her. She loved it. Thank you! We will be back.

Visited Tortuga’s for lunch today. Pleasant outdoor seating and great food. Easy to find, is on River Drive in Thunderbolt. Basically, hang a right off Victory Drive right before the Wilmington River (Jimmie Petrea) Bridge.

Had the Jerked Chicken BLT. Very tasty. The wife had the Shrimp Panini which she said was excellent. She also recommends the Grouper BLT (when available).

The beer was cold, interesting menu and good service. What more could you ask for? I give them 5 stars.

Sitting outside at Tortuga’s, one might think they are indeed in the Caribbean. The setting is one of lush greenery, beautiful flowers, and plants and herbs that they use in the kitchen. With the fans blowing, even in the heat of summer there is a breeze. We like sitting outside and just taking in the laid back vibe for brunch. In the two times we’ve eaten at Tortuga’s, service has been friendly and efficient, the food selection and quality superb. Most recently, we had their Sunshine Breakfast and their grit cakes over crab cakes. Both were delicious and the crab cakes were fresh with loads of meat. Paired with a beer and a mimosa was the perfect brunch.
