I almost called the restaurant, handed them my life savings, and said, “Take it. You’ve broken me.” I did not pay enough for what just happened.
Coming from the Southwest to Missouri, every “verde” dish is basically spaghetti sauce in a green disguise. You think, green chili verde = chili, but NO. Years of trauma. My tongue has been living in exile.
We ordered Perches Fries “just to even the playing field.” I am a harsh critic, basically flavor mafia. The plate comes out. Crinklecut fries. Trash. I was ready to start a protest.
Then… the universe played a prank on me. Those fries? FRESH. Toppings so perfect, I swear I saw them doing ballet before landing on my plate. Every bite? A nuclear event in my mouth. I wanted to take a nap and have a cigarette at the same time. I don’t even smoke. My knees were shaking. My fingers were trembling. I may have moaned like a cartoon character getting hit by a rainbow.
This restaurant is officially the Mecca of Missouri Mexican food. I will drive through tornadoes, wrestle alligators, and recite their menu in Shakespearean English if it means I get another bite. The staff? Friendly, attentive, basically superheroes in aprons. The atmosphere? Perfect. And honestly? They are criminally undercharging for the total annihilation of my taste buds.
If you’ve ever doubted “food orgasmic,” stop doubting. It’s real. It makes you weak in the knees, it makes you question your life choices, and it may cause spontaneous naps and imaginary cigarettes. Run. Don’t walk. Bring a helmet and maybe a chair for when your knees give out.
When I got there the restaurant was packed, they have (I believe) 5 dining areas. They also have their own beer and salsa.
If you want traditional and true Mexican food please make it to this family restaurant.
The Good. We found a facebook post advertising a taco flight and a margarita flight . That’s why we went .
Margaritas are decent size and flavor for the price .
The salsa is very mild and was well enjoyed .
Rice and beans were top notch. Normally I find Spanish rice very dry . This rice was not dried out and actually has flavor .
Service was ok. Neither good or bad.
Guacamole was prepared well in advance . But was still delicious. It was a very pale green.
The Bad … we ordered 2 queso’s . This cheese dip was a bowl of warm milk. I work in the restaurant industry including Mexican food . I know what it should be like. You could literally drink it with a small straw . Note the short video .
2 daughters ordered chicken cheese and rice 1 with added shrimp . Chicken was extremely dry sitting on top of rice. The cheese was so runny , it didn’t even stick to the chicken or rice . Absolutely not seasoned . The shrimp was cold and very rubbery and tough .
Ordered Carnitas tacos and they were out settled for shredded beef tacos . Dry and no sauce provided for those
Shrimp taco plate . Again Shrimp over cooked and rubber and served with fresh jalapeño… no where on the menu did it say jalapenos. We didn’t complain . She scrapped them off
Taco flight . 2 asada and 2 al pastor .
Pastor was very delicious
Asada was over cooked cubed steak without any flavor . Was provided .4 salsas without any explanation of kind . 2 so spicy you need an extinguisher
A taco enchilada plate. Very good however they brought the wrong taco and had to wait for it to be corrected
2 fish taco plate very dry and served with jalapeno without any the menu stating jalapeno used . I did ask for some salsa verde . Which helped the dryness . I also ordered a single asada street taco . Very tough meat with no flavor .
Over all a disappointing night . We ate without complaining.
With all the Mexican choices in Springfield . Unfortunately we will not be back .
This place has decent prices . 7 people with entrees and 7 sodas with margaritas flight . 2 queso and 2 guacamole
Only $180
