One bite of their fresh fish and you’ll wonder if Neptune himself phoned it in. The vibe is cozy; the food is like a comforting embrace—if your grandma were a sushi chef with a flair for the fabulous. Come for the sushi, stay for the sass, and thank your lucky stars that Toro exists in this culinary universe. ✨
The wonton ended up having this pungent pork fat taste (the bad taste you have from uncastrated boar which is why it tastes awful due to hormones), I just had to stuff it because I was hungry, but then I noticed that there is something floating… something that STARES at me from the soup bowl. Whoa hold on, I did not sign up for this. I called the waiter and said I don’t like these creatures in my soup staring at me from the broth, and I utterly lost appetite. The waiter said “haha yeah I would not eat that either”. And then nothing. Cool service, thanks for not bringing this to the manager’s attention. Picture attached because I had to take them out. This shelfish looks disgustingly like worms!!! Look, Toro, I know yall are fancy, but don’t expect this to be favourable by all.
Then they brought me a chirashi bowl, that was presented flawlessly… with a single giant chopped off shrimp head with its eyes bulging at me. Hey, I have no issues with animal parts as I dealt with slaughter for food processing. But that head spoiled my appetite so bad I had to empty the soup bowl to hide this head and cover it with a plate. The person I was with lost appetite completely because she can’t deal with these things at all. I told her to turn away as I had to hide this thing in a bowl.
I wish you best, I see that it has many good reviews, but I’m not coming back. Frankly, it’s not my first negative experience here
As a guy who has spent years living in Vancouver, I can tell you that the food quality here holds no second place to any Japanese restaurant there (hate to compare, but Vancouver really is a mecca for Asian food). Top it all off with a fun blue sparkling under the sea atmosphere with Japanese accents; this place is a winner for a local or a tourist. As more and more restaurants become out-priced and puny portioned to make the value of eating out not worth it; this place brings a smile back to eating out. 5 Stars (which is hard if you read my reviews).
Absolutely loved this place! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The agedashi tofu was perfectly crispy and comforting, the pineapple & avocado tempura was such a unique and delicious combo, and both the yam roll and mango avocado sushi were light, fresh, and so satisfying. The tea was amazing and paired so well with the meal. Everything tasted so good I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend! ✨
This restaurant is welcoming , vibyyyy but with amazing food! and a nice walk from our hotel (about 15 min and across the bridge ). We love sushi and went for my bf birthday. He is allergic to every fish outside of salmon and tuna. They were very kind and made sure he liked all his food!! He got the sake flight. I can’t remember the name, but it was the one that was around 18 and I got the Toro Margarita it had a lychee forward taste. It wasn’t too sweet, but the lychee fruit on the inside was sweet, which was very nice and balanced. I love sashimi he got the spicy. I got the Atlantic. He also loves wasabi and he said the fresh wasabi was worth it. The eel was perfectly cooked and the rolls had so many different textures and flavors. We got the black dragon roll.!
I put in the notes for our reservation that it was his birthday and they greeted him saying happy birthday which he was very surprised! Our waitress was Ayaka!! She was so sweet, helpful and checked on us frequently!! My bf name is hard to pronounce and she asked him how to pronounce it and sung him happy birthday! If you’re looking for a nice, chill environment with picture pretty DELICIOUS SUSHI, then come here 🙂 my bf felt very special with the fried ice cream!
The only thing to note is that the floor was a bit slippery during our visit, but everything else — the food, the service, and the overall vibe — was wonderful. Definitely a spot worth trying when you’re in Victoria!
Andy was so warm and welcoming. He checked in on us often and genuinely cared about whether we were enjoying our meal.
