Great coffee! I ordered a quad shot latte without flavor, so the coffee flavor itself is important to me. It was delicious! We ordered avocado toast with Pico de gallo (south of the border, avocado toast), and we loved it! I think I’d ask for it to be toasted a little more, but that’s just a personal preference. Already thinking about our next visit. It’s a nice vibe and great for hanging out and great service where visiting is encouraged without feeling rushed. Thank you!

So I visited this wonderful little coffee shop the other day on my lunch break and I was not disappointed! It has access from the front main street or a large parking lot in back. As soon as you walk into the stoop you feel the charm and atmosphere! This little shop feels much bigger than it really is, simply because of the way it’s set up. The staff were very friendly and helpful to a newbie such as myself. I had a tuna salad crissont with clam chowder soup (which I’ve never had before and if all the rest are as good as theirs I’m a fan!) The sandwich was made to order and prepared behind what was once an old bank tellers counter, complete with bars! After ordering we sat at a fair sized table that was once a large spool for what I would guess would be power lines. The food was delicious, the staff came around and picked up our tray once they had time and the owner even visited us to ensure everything was great! On our way out we picked up a cappuccino an apple cider and a couple of cookies for the road and it was all wonderful! I know I’ve found myself a new hang out. If your looking for coffee in ottumwa, Top Hat is definitley Top Shelf!

Lunch at Top Hat was great! Tuna on croissant and roast beef wrap with a root beer float. Sandwiches are just enough but the root beer float was beyond awesome! Decor is always fun to look though as well!

Terrific food and ambience. Take a stroll around the dining area to view antiques from around the world. Very friendly staff. Will try the al fresco dining area in warm weather. You can linger over a meal, or dessert and a beverage here. Room for a larger party or intimate enough for one or two.

I walked in and immediately liked the music and look of this little hole-in-the wall coffee shop. To my surprise, it was pretty empty. The two gal’s at the counter were super nice and patient with me while I went over their menu and tried to decide what I wanted. I opted for their Roast Beef wrap without tomatoes. considering how well portioned all the ingredients were, I probably would’ve loved it even with tomatoes. It was a great balance of lettuce, onions, beef and a sauce I couldn’t quite place. 10/10 wrap.
Along with my wrap I ordered a large, half and half, triple shot and brown sugar (And cinnamon I think.. not 100% sure) espresso. Normally I hate espresso from coffee shops. 9/10 they use cheap(ish) beans that have a slight burnt taste to it (Typically because the roaster uses a wider variant in bean size, so some beans roast faster and burn). I liked this place’s espresso a lot. It had a nice full body and a balanced bittersweet flavor. It tasted like a lighter medium roast, possibly a true medium roast.
I got all that for sub $15.
Overall, my brief visit to the Top Hat left me satisfied. I plan to take my Wife there on a date sometime in the future.

Stopped in early Tuesday morning for some breakfast, as they used to have really good breakfast sandwiches. I asked the guy at the counter if they still had egg sandwiches and he said all he could make was a sausage and cheese croissant. He seemed annoyed at my presence. I was hungry so I said sure to the sandwich. $3.75 for a sandwich without egg. Unsure if they’re not stocking enough supplies or what that they didn’t have egg patties. I had an ok latte about a month ago as well but pretty underwhelming. They had no seasonal drinks and he was annoyed that I asked. So sad as they used to be my favorite coffee shop, but have gone consistently downhill over the past 3 years. The new hours are very limiting as well, and before they finally posted them, I went 3 times just to find they were closed. Disappointing.

One of my favorite lunch/coffee/business meeting spots in the region. Super friendly and attentive staff with a wonderful atmosphere and attention to cleanliness. The food though is fantastic — rotating DAILY HOMEMADE soups. Love the Chicken Salad Croissant and the Tomato Basil Bisque. I enjoy bringing clients for business meetings here as well. It’s also good to know that a portion of each sale helps run the soup kitchen in the back!

Met up with some friends at Top Hat the other day. What a cool place! The space is really well done. The coffee and breakfast sandwich I had were delicious. And the staff was great. Support small business! You won’t be disappointed

I walked in. I received two smiles and complement on my suit. Asked about breakfast and got full order of biscuits and gravy(on point delicious) and a jumbo blueberry muffin. $ 6.95 within 3 min was seated and eating. great service and nice atmosphere.I would love to have an option for juice at least rather than only coffee or tea but it is a coffee shop.
