It started out with our host Carlos got us seated quickly and even brought us our drinks because it was very busy. Then there was Lala..The BEST! Her recommendations were on point. And she never let our drinks even get to half and there was another waiting. Warm, charming and witty. The food ..delicious Restaurant very clean and quiet. A must stop when you’re in the area!

Glad to see they’re still doing well! Haven’t eaten at a TooJay’s in 10 years, and they’re just as good as they’ve always been. Classic pastrami sandwich tasted as good as it did 25 years ago in their Dr. Phillips location and 20 years ago in their Waterford location. I’d say that’s pretty consistent! I admit, I half expected to find a struggling, dilapidated chain store after all these years, but was very happily proved wrong today. Their food has always been good imho, and today was no exception. Classic deli favs plus modern comfort food. Yes, deli pickles are a thing. Don’t know why someone would complain about that lol. Ours were great. Desserts are good, we had carrot cake today, and have had various others over the years. Server was on top of things, very nice, helpful and attentive. A few too many unbused tables at first, but we arrived just after lunch rush and they took care of all of them by the time we left. I’d like to try some of those specialty cream cheeses they had in the deli case. I think I’ll make a habit of coming back sooner…

We enjoyed our lunch at TooJays. It felt like being back in NYC: the good cole slaw and pickle! We’ll be back to taste some more specialties.

Stopped in for a late lunch and dessert. Had a half sandwich and soup. Both were delicious. Saved room for the famous Banana Dream cake. Best banana cake in existence. Yari took very good care of us. Very attentive to our needs. Will definitely be back.

LaLa was wonderful. My chosen company for our meal was not great, but LaLa was still beautiful and unaffected by her. She was wonderful. Thank you Lala

It’s sad that after years of selling great food at a reasonable price, this is no longer true! We stopped to pick up one ham and cheese sandwich and a salad. This should have been very easy especially because it was prior to lunch rush at 10:45am. It took them 40 minutes to prepare these two things! Incredible! When we got home with the food it wasn’t as expected. The salad was about 1/3 brown tinged romaine with cores, there was one small piece of blue cheese (this was supposed to be gargonzola cheese). It also came with 4 ounces of chicken that appeared as if it was yesterday’s leftovers, microwaved. It looked like dogfood!
The ham and cheese sandwich was a little better. They charge you extra for the cheese and then give you about half a slice. The lettuce was good but only one small slice of tomato!
Overall the meal was not worth the $37 we spent!
Toojay’s, you have lost our business forever! Low quality food and high prices are a guarantee to chase customers away!

Walking with my beloved back into TwoJays on Colonial Street felt like opening a photo album I didn’t know about. She came here as a young teenager in the 90s, when her parents would slide into one of the booths and order matzo ball soup while she tried (unsuccessfully) to finish one of their mile-high pastrami sandwiches. Coming back as an adult, she realized not much has changed and that’s exactly what makes this place special.
TwoJays still leans into that old-fashioned diner style. polished counters, vinyl booths, and a menu that could double as a novella. The servers move with a kind of practiced rhythm, balancing plates of brisket, potato knishes, and deli classics like they’ve been here forever. It’s comfort food with history, the kind of place where regulars greet the staff by name.
What really took me back was the soundtrack. Mounted TVs play endless loops of 80s music videos—think Hall & Oates, Madonna, Springsteen, blending seamlessly with the clinking of cutlery and bursts of laughter from the next booth over. It creates this strangely timeless feeling, like you’ve stepped into a pocket where the decades blur but the food remains the same.

Having lunch at this restaurant is always a great experience. The staff is usually very attentive, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Today, though, I had an interaction with a manager I had never seen before, and it really stood out. He was extremely kind, attentive, and had such a great attitude. His approach made the whole experience even better. If he stays at this restaurant, I’ll definitely be visiting more often. Great service makes all the difference!

So, this is a weird one. They have a huge menu and lots of food and desert choices… I ordered a grilled cheese with bacon, and it was pretty good… except… they put a GIANT pickle on the plate, and I literally HATE pickles… and the juice soaked into and ruined half of my sandwich. Otherwise, the sandwich was fine… the fries were the most bland, unseasoned fries I think I’ve ever seen. The folks with me seemed to enjoy their food, but I have to give an honest review of what I had. I would probably try it again, but I did not really enjoy this meal much.
This location has tons of parking and is easy to access.

I love TooJays. The menu is extensive and the very time I order something new is it always fantastic. I recommended the Country Fried Steak dinner with an order of Key Lime Pie! Our server, Kristal, was happy, energetic and very sweet! She was quick with our service and she was always smiling. He mood was infectious and wonderful. My group left with full bellies and huge smiles.
