I had a rare hankering for hot dogs today and stopped in to Tony’s. I ordered two hot dogs with mustard and raw onion to go.
I was handed my container and was given the total, $6.50.
$6.50!
I was asked if there was a problem and I said yes, the price. These weren’t footlongs, jumbo, doubtful they were even 8:1 two-ounce dogs.
The buns were cold and dry, not steamed or even warm. This was about 1 p.m. on a Monday.

We picked this spot on a trip, for a hot dog adventure. We were not disappointed. The dogs with meat sauce were fantastic. He needs more customers in this old mill town. Stop by and grab some food.

Very good texas weiners. The chili sauce is delish. Comparable to the coney island weiners they have in beautiful scranton, pa… lol. I will definitely be back to Tony’s

The owner believes that it’s the sauce that matters. Unfortunately for me, the hot dog, the bun and the condiments matter, and they fall way short. The hot dog is pork and something, but it certainly doesn’t have a good beefy taste or any snap. It tasted like a bar-s 20¢ hotdog, except I just paid 4 bucks and change. The sauce as they call it, is chili. Again, meh. Average. Didn’t taste any better than canned stuff. I can’t say for sure if they make their own, but the taste is really well below what I make for myself at home.
Also no parking anywhere. Not a kid friendly place. Kinda rough looking joint.

Best chili dogs you’re going to find, both in Broome County and beyond. I have been searching high and low for chili dogs around the country that have a better flavor that the dogs at Tony’s Texas Hots, and I still have yet to find anything that comes close.
This is a no-frills eating establishment. You go for the conversation, the food, and the experience. Peter, the owner, and his wife, Diane, who also works there, are both great people. You’ll leave smelling like fryer oil, but it is well worth it.

Chili dog was OK but not as spectacular as others described. The owner was not friendly. He couldn’t even muster a “hello” even though there was only one other customer in the place who was already served. He was more like a disgruntled employee rather than the owner. People refer to the charm of the diner. Actually, it looks dumpy from the outside and feels even dumpier indoors. It looks like the owner hasn’t spent a cent on taken care of the place for the past 3 or 4 decades. I suspect that his overhead is very low and accordingly his prices should be low. Since prices are not that low and food is ordinary, you might do better elsewhere.
