Tonic is a casual restaurant and bar in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of DC right on the GWU campus. We are known for our tater tots and fantastic happy hour featuring $5 drinks, including local beers. With live Jazz music twice a week, a Saturday night comedy show, and bottomless mimosa brunch on the weekends, theres always something to enjoy!

We enjoyed the Chicken and Beef Nacho sheet with our toppings on the side as requested. It was a generous portion as an appetizer enough for 3 to enjoy. We also had the blackened salmon on a salad (grilled per our choice) with Cesar dressing on the side. Delicious and fresh with generous shaved parmesan on top. Note that the Cesar dressing has hints of anchovy paste, per tradition. All the food was delightful as was the service by our waitress Brianna. Enjoy your lunch or dinner here!

The food (nachos with beef) were average: not on the sheet with toppings all over as stated on the menu and by the server. My husband liked the Tofu Curry. My dessert (Apple Crumble) was AMAZING! The plain Mini-Mac was $11 and while kinda good, absolutely NOT worth $11.
Outdoor seating is covered with fans and heater so huge plus!!!

Friendly atmosphere, delicious food.
As a Floridian, I had walked in from the very cold night air and was warmly greeted by the staff.
The bartender asked if I would like a hot water to warm my hands. Never have I been offered that from any bar, but that was exactly what I needed! She also gave me some recommendations from the menu, which did not disappoint.
I had the American burger, and I don’t think I have ever tasted anything more delicious. Bob Belcher himself would give this burger 5 stars and probably weep with joy.

Tonic is an okay experience, and that’s disappointing. Before eating today, I had a very good view of tonic—their tater tots were delicious and their service was kind.
Now, my impression is that the entrees and appetizers are too overpriced ($19 for a mid burger is wild) for food that can only be described as okay.
The chicken bites with sweet and spicy sauce was the only item my table ordered that I really enjoyed. Otherwise, the food was okay.
Don’t get me wrong, the service was friendly, fast, and I enjoyed eating with my mom, gf, and friends … but, I’m not coming back to Tonic except for a happy hour or an event (like their karaoke).

It’s a nice hangout place with a simple food and drinks menu. You won’t eat the meal of a lifetime here but the atmosphere makes up for that. It’s also well priced by DC standards.

First visit ever, went a Friday evening, loved it! Great atmosphere, nice mix of different demographics, excellent music. The bartender even brought drinks out to the tables – he was too-notch wonderful. Loaded nachos were to-die-for delicious. Will definitely be back!

Very diplomatic and courageous atmosphere to visit, especially if you work or are student nearby. Tonics often has stellar happy hour deals and can accommodate a multitude of reservations when needed.
The food is strictly American and the quality is not entirely exceptional but certainly acceptable. The prices are fair and the service quality is excellent. Would recommend this to others to try when venturing in Foggy Bottom or needing a good place to have a meal with others.
