Hello neighbor, my name is Tom, and I’m the founder and namesake of Tom’s Fried Pies, which I started in 2011 with a recipe developed by my Mama long ago to feed me, my 12 brothers and sisters, and my coal miner Daddy. There weren’t many days that she wasn’t up before dawn, fryin’ up fruit pies and meat pies made from leftovers for my Daddy’s lunch pail to take to work in the coal mines of Kentucky. Before long, my Daddy’s fried pies were missing from his lunch pail at the mines. All of the men wanted Ms. Lillie’s fried pies, and the only way Daddy would get his lunch was for Mama to send enough for the other miners.

I hate fried pies! And this place proved me wrong, not sure what to eat? Bored of all the other restaurants? Well Tom’s fried pies solved that problem for me! Everything was great, especially the Roagie, it has small chopped up mushrooms and onions which I hate, and I couldn’t taste them! It comes with cut up potatoes to which tastes DELICIOUS! Has bunch of games to play with friends or family, neatly organized, the servers were very nice to us for our first time, and overall, everything was great!

I found this place while planning what to eat when I came to visit D’Lo Mississippi. This placed popped up. Realistically, when I saw “Fried” I already knew I needed to come. They have sweet pies and savory pies.
It’s a small place in a strip mall. The energy here is amazing and the atmosphere is awesome. When you order a pie, it’s going to be blazing hot. I just broke mine in half to help the cooling process.
I ordered the beef and vegetables pie. It was absolutely amazing. The first thing you notice on the first notice is buttery flaky crust. It’s obviously homemade. The filling is rich and full of flavor. I came in with the intention to buy just 1. I ended up getting 3 total.
If you haven’t been here, you absolutely have to make a point to stop by.

Brooklyn served me and she was excellent! She is so sweet and welcoming. It was my first time coming in and she made me feel so welcomed. Everyone needs a Brooklyn in costumer service! Also the best pie I have ever ate!!!! So fresh!

Best fried pie I’ve ever had. Pies are not greasy and have real fruit filling. Not canned pie filling like most places.

It is rare I am unsatisfied enough to write a review (so rare that this is my first one about a restaurant). But I got two pies, as soon as I grabbed the first one it immediately fell completely apart onto my car seat in which after I obviously threw it away. The second was a pizza one, with essentially no filling. Same issue with falling apart in my hands. I wondered to myself, “Do I just hate pie?” so on my way home I grabbed a box of the mediocre JJ’s pies (apple) and it is genuinely unreal how much better it was. Somehow I received pies that tasted burnt on the edges, little to no flavoring in the crust, the cherry filling was subpar at best, and the pizza as I said couldn’t fill up a child. Not only that, it was 15 dollars for those two pies and a drink! (3 dollars for 6 of the JJ’s). So not only is it an insanely overpriced food item considering the cost of production for crust and filling, but it had almost none! I came in happy and curious, and left borderline seething. Really hope I caught them on a bad day, because otherwise I am unsure if any of these 5 stars have ever had a decent pie. Also, how is it burnt around the edges and undone in the middle? That’s a culinary accomplishment in itself.

20240327 Miss Mississippi 2007, Kimberly, recommended this place. I stopped in to get some pies, and the young lady at the counter was so nice. I got the beef, chicken with veggies, tex mex, roagie, and pecan. The tex mex is the best. Chicken and veggies reminds me of chicken pot pie, but it only had 3 small cubes of chicken. For the price, I expect a little but more meat. The oecan pie was good but a bit too sweet. I don’t like pecan, but this is like candy. The pies were a bit greasy, but expected since they are fried. For some reason, my mouth felt funny after eating the pies. Might be the grease. I prefer if there’s more filling in the pies, and less greasy.

I saw Tom’s Fried Pies on MPB’s Mississippi Roads hosted by Walt Grayson this past Sunday and being that this restaurant is located in Richland I thought we would give it a try. It’s located in a strip mall but has this cool covered patio space with tables and chairs. You walk thru the patio to get into the restaurant, which is a walk-up counter service. It kind of has a retro feel which is cool. The service was great, we were greeted and welcomed with a smile. We didn’t get there until about 2 but they still had a decent crowd. We ordered the chicken and broccoli and roagie fried pies with slaw and potato salad and soda in glass bottles which was awesome. The pies are made to order but it still only took about 10-12 minutes to get ours. I had the chicken and broccoli pie which honestly tasted like a chicken pot pie but with cheese in the creamy filling. My husband had the rougie which had beef, onions, mushrooms and some veg in it, he said it was really good. It was hard to wait for the pies to cool off enough to eat them! The coleslaw was sweet and creamy and the potato salad had bacon in it so it was nice and smoky in flavor. I’m dinging the atmosphere a bit on this review because I felt like that patio could have been cheered up a bit. There was a table tennis table against one of the walls, so you couldn’t really use it, there wasn’t any music or TV’s, and they had those cute stringed outdoor lights but several bulbs needed to be replaced. Also our table was super wobbly. All of that aside though it was a great experience and we will be back to try some of the sweet pies and other savory ones.

OMG! Just stopped here on a whim. Thought it’d be a premade roadside pie…NOT! All pies should be this phenomenal! If you’re rolling through it’s worth the stop. It’s now on our list of places to stop on our road trips this way.
