1st visit to this location, Unfortunately it was not as good as the other two I’ve visited. The flour tortilla was tough around the edges, there wasn’t a lot of cheese, and the carne guisada was kinda dry when you bit into the chunks. My wife loved her chilaquiles and beans, but the potatoes, which looked great, were leathery and dry inside. She did say her corn tortillas were homemade and delicious! All in all, it was a mixed bag. Our server was friendly and somewhat attentive after disappearing for a bit. I’ll be back to another Tommy’s, just not this one. ♂️

This place has the mom and pops dinner vibe/experience locked in. Despite it’s always busy your greeted with a kind smile and a “sit where you like”. The service is top notch and feels like you’re watching a professional football team execute precision plays as they quickly deliver food and fill coffee without fail. (Unlike the cowboys) The food comes in shockingly large portions but unlike most places the large portions don’t come at the cost of quality. You have to try the breakfast tacos as the home made tortillas will have you tearing up with memories of your abuela. The best part of the experience is it doesn’t cost you an arm n a leg, it’s all very affordable so you can enjoy your meal while being surrounded by some down to earth old timers and beautiful families.

Great tasting Mexican food in a relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel like home. The portions are generous and most importantly of all, the flower tortillas are top notch. Tortillas are make or break for me they definitely didn’t disappoint. Highly recommended

Tommy’s always has the best barbacoa and overall great quality Mexican food. Their potatoes are always a bit under seasoned but cooked to perfection otherwise. There isn’t a barbacoa plate on the menu but ask for it as it is worth it!!! The only thing they need is a bigger dining room! And a waitlist on yelp or their website.

Visit the Medical District monthly so I decided to stop for breakfast. Got the Migas and asked for it to be prepared à la mexicana with cheese. Ordered a barbacoa taco on the side. Plate came with fried potatoes and refried beans. The barbacoa didn’t come with cilantro or onions so I had to ask for some. The “à la mexicana” was $1.59, the cheese was an extra $2.29 and the little cup of cilantro and onion was $.79. I couldn’t believe how much of an up charge for the extras. Cheese I understand but $2.29 for maybe less than 1/4 cup of shredded cheese? $1.59 for diced onion tomato and jalapeno? The cilantro was maybe a teaspoon worth. The onion not much more. Pretty disappointed to say the least. The whole meal with coffee was $20.93. Won’t be returning.

First time coming here and they did not disappoint! The carne guisada is the best I’ve had in a long time. The tortillas are fantastic and fluffy. Bean and cheese with bacon was delicious, potato and egg with cheese were on point. Definitely recommend this place. The waitress was sweet and helpful. Love the artwork up around the place.

Fast and friendly service, clean restaurant. I would have given 5 stars but my tacos were cold. Sent them back to be warmed up. Not a big deal, still very enjoyable

Not that many places serve barbacoa everyday (usually weekends only), BUT Tommy’s Restaurant DOES! I have treated many friends/businesses to the barbacoa and carne quisada with cheese tacos and everyone gets hooked!
All the waitresses are always welcoming, with a big smile! You can tell they are happy and proud to work for Tommy’s and serve you each time you come in. So kudos to the management of Tommy’s because they keep their employees happy.
Happy employees means happy customers!
Sometimes when I’m on the go, I call in my orders. I get the same efficient service each time. Thank you Tommy’s!

My first time here, Very Bland Food. I got the chkn tacos crispy. No worth my $11 or so for lunch. How can you mess up the simple taste. Pero Bueno, Never Again there… and food was given to me QUICK! To me that tells me, a lot too. Funky after taste too…
PS, Guac on a Barbacoa taco?! Nasty!
I didn’t order it this way…

UPDATE still has soft puffy powdery tortillas! Service was great. Timing was quick from the kitchen and always delicious. Do you like “brown gravy” carne guisada? This is your place. Always judging on tortillas and these make the grade.
