Restaurant in San Francisco, Tommy’s Joynt, a historic landmark and birthplace of the California Hofbrau, has been serving up hearty American comfort food at large portions and small prices since 1947. Serving turkey, roast beef, BBQ beef brisket, ham, corned beef, and the top best pastrami in San Francisco. Plus daily specials, including oxtails, lamb shanks, lasagna, salmon, corned beef and cabbage, pork spare ribs, and roasted half chicken and rice, and everyday spaghetti and meatballs. Don’t forget to try Tommy’s world-famous buffalo chili or buffalo stew, the only place in San Francisco to get this unique dish.

Classic SF joint with great food served classic Hof Brau style. I got the hot pastrami sandwich and it was great. Irish Coffee as good as the original at half the price. Just go. The decor is amazing.

Whenever we are in the bay area, we try to stop by Tommy’s Joynt for something to eat. And after watching DDD, it just was the place we had to try. The food is great and the portion sizes are awesome. All at a great price that won’t put a hole in your pocket. Service was awesome and the staff were very friendly. Atmosphere is super cozy and lively at the same time with moderate noise but not overly loud so you can still hear your friends talk with you at your table. Ordering is very similar to a cafeteria setting where you get a tray and order what you want at the counter and the staff make it right there for you.
We ordered the corned beef sandwich with Aus Jus and it was awesome. The next time we stop by, we definitely want to try the lamb shank, cause it looks so yummy. Highly recommend you try it when you are in the bay area. You won’t regret it.

I love this joint!! I love the go to the counter and get what you want freshly sliced and delicious . I am a sucker for Thanksgiving dinner and this place delivers deliciously. You have to ask for cranberry sauce but I can forgive that. The stuffing is delicious but I don’t care for the texture I like mine less wet. The gravy is divine mashed potatoes are real. The guys behind the counter are great and seem to be used to people not knowing what to order because it all looks so good . The bartenders were great and made excellent suggestions. I have been here multiple times during my visit to San Francisco. Do not miss out on this joint! Get a filling meal at a reasonable price and make sure you do not skip those house made pickles . I am not a pickle guy but these were exceptional. The charm of this place oozes old school and a no nonsense way of doing things. If you have read this review thank you. You have been great I have been Mike C!!

Step back in time to this Barbary Coast Inn. Dark wood interior of booths, tables or Bar seating.
Still serving hearty meals by the plate of carved beef, chicken, potatoes, vegetables. cold beer on tap classic cocktails. Reasonable prices and kind of a neighborhood vibe as all kinds of People rolled in at dinner time.
Acessible. Did not see any dogs or kids.

I’ve been coming here for over 10 years. Still amazing as always, you can never go wrong with the brisket. And their cocktails are amazing too. Fun fact, this is also the historic spot where Metallica asked Jason Newsted to join them in October 1986

Finally able to revisit this place. Walked into a semi- crowded bar and restaurant with all the locals. Right before a concert nearby as all the old rockers were pregaming. Wonderful crowd and best tasting cuts of meat. Roast beef, bbq brisket and turkey our entourage ordered. Spaghetti, mashed potatoes and salads were our sides, with many other options we wish we could of tried. The bar was hopping, diverse crowd as well. After over eating the place was packed, with always a line for the food. Get here if never been, you’ll be back like I plan too.

WHAT A JOINT!!!! Love this place. Its old, gritty and good like I like it. The pastrami is fantastic and the green beans are outstanding. This is a stand up order and seat yourself bar that is a staple to San Fran. They do it right and it is super affordable….two can eat for under $50 without a problem. Its old school with simply spectacular MEATS!!!!!! Its worth the walk.

For what it is, 5 stars. It’s a classic S.F. joint, with a hot plate of healthy food and other options You can walk through the buffet, see and choose from 5 or so meats, combine it with mashed potatoes and or green beans, salad or baked beans, and a sourdough or soft roll; large plate is 18, and small is 13.50. It’s a big plate of food, a whole and complete meal, for less than $20. But of course we tip so it’s a bit more than that. You order at the buffet and pay there, get your food on a tray and seat yourself. This is an old school diner and bar combo, and it looks it. Cozy.

What a fun, special, old school atmosphere and hot specials and food! My friend and I enjoyed our spaghetti (sauce is gravy like vs. full on tomato) and juicy meatballs (3). Despite the tempting sandwiches, carving board for meat and side salads, we wanted a homey classic meal and enjoyed it. I preferred my soft roll vs. Sourdough. Take your lunch tray after you order, pay cash or credit (surcharge) then pick a booth or table or bar spot! Would love to come back to have a beer and enjoy the atmosphere. Water cup station and leave your tray when you leave and staff will pick it up. A special place, enjoy!!
