Atmosphere was nice but a bit hot in there.
I’ve been to this restaurant a few times before with friends, and the staff were always friendly, which left me with a very good impression and I recommended this place to a lot of people around me. However, when I came by myself today, the experience was completely different.
Even though I was eating quite quickly (I was only there for about 20 minutes from the time I sat down, while many others around me stayed much longer), the staff repeatedly asked if I was done. At one point, an employee even brought me the bill without me asking for it. After I paid (and tipped), I planned to sit for a few more minutes while replying to some messages on my phone, but they asked again, “Are you done?” which clearly implied that they wanted me to leave.
I ended up getting up and leaving immediately because I felt very disappointed and didn’t want to spend another second there.
I also noticed there was no line outside and the restaurant was not close to closing time, so I don’t understand why they were being so impatient. If there was a reason, such as a reservation or time limit, they could have simply communicated that to me, and I would have been completely understanding.
So I’m not sure if this restaurant doesn’t welcome solo diners or if there were other reasons for how I was treated. Either way, I only wanted to enjoy the food and a quiet moment to myself, but instead I felt rushed and disrespected. I was also clearly treated very differently from other customers there today who came in pairs or groups.
It’s a shame because the food is genuinely good and I had been a loyal customer before, but this experience really ruined my mood and made me not want to come back again.
The staff are friendly, polite, and always make you feel welcome whether you’re dining in or taking out. The place has a simple, cozy atmosphere that makes you want to come back again and again. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and it shows in both the quality of the food and the service.
We’re happy to keep supporting this local gem — Tokyo Sushi truly deserves the love from the community!
That’s where I found myself before settling in to Tokyo Sushi. I walked in at past 5pm on a Friday and was seated immediately. The server was incredibly sweet to me (she carded me not knowing I was well past the legal drinking age, and apologized several times – skincare works folks!) and was also incredibly courteous to the annoying 20-something girls seated next to me wondering why the platter they ordered well past everyone else was taking so long and other’s were eating before them.
I got a Sapporo, which was a little pricier than I thought was needed (~10$) but it was the tall boy can so I didn’t mind as much, but if you’re going I don’t think beer is really needed.
I ordered the chicken karaage for 11$, and it was 6 nugget sized pieces of chicken – they were hot, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Delightful, but not really needed.
For my main I ordered the Salmon and Tuna Donburi, which comes with miso soup (~28) and stupidly also got the 3 piece salmon sashimi (~9$). If you’re caught between a bowl and a sushi platter, rest assured that if its filling and fish you’re after the Don will do.
It was a lot of fish, but all of it was fresh, thick and delicious slabs of it. I was surprised how fast I ate the bowl (speaking as already a very fast eater), and one special detail was the rice was not the hard, nib-let kind of sushi rice you may be used to but warm, soft and fluffy which made every bite with soy sauce and ginger as good as the one before.
Overall, I have no complaints about the food, it’s pricier but the quality shows and if I hadn’t gotten the beer, sashimi and extra karaage I would’ve rated it 5 stars.
