Toadstool Cafe is more about the experience than the food, and it’s important to set expectations before coming.
The restaurant works like a fast-casual setup — you order first, then take a seat, and the food is brought out to you. It’s extremely popular, so reservations are highly recommended; otherwise, it can be very hard to get in.
The food itself leans heavily toward a pre-made, theme-park style. Everything looks very cute and well-designed, but flavor-wise it’s pretty average. Most dishes are quite heavy and overly seasoned — I’d say about 80% of the menu feels more about visual appeal than balanced taste. Overall, the value for the price is on the lower side, though that’s somewhat expected inside a theme park.
That said, the atmosphere is fantastic. The décor is immersive, playful, and beautifully themed. There are also interactive elements using the Mario wristband, which makes the experience especially fun for kids and Mario fans. It really feels like stepping into the game.
In short, Toadstool Cafe is worth visiting for the immersive experience, but not for the food itself. If you’re looking for something genuinely delicious, there are much better dining options elsewhere in Universal Studios. This is a place to enjoy the theme — not to come with high expectations for the meal.

Fun comfortable lunch spot!!! Great cozy vibe inside, pictures and video walls of toads EVERYWHERE! Booths are nice and food is served at a good pace. You order up at the counter and are assigned a seat. You can’t get a seat until you order food first! The Mario burger was good, standard burger patty good size. The bacon was good and crispy, I also enjoyed the thousand island. The truffle fries are real crispy and full of herbs and truffle oil . The wife loved her Mushroom soup, she mentioned it had lots of flavor and was nice and hot. They also let you keep the mushroom bowl holder in comes in. My son loved and ate all his Kids Spaghetti. He was extremely excited about the coin cookie that came it the power up. Great first time experience. Definitely make a reservation way ahead. Service was great, all workers inside were very nice and friendly.

Food usually takes a long time and when it does it still tastes old. Burgers taste flavorless and dry as if it’s been sitting under a hot lamp for hours, no lie McDonald’s quarter pound burgers taste better and don’t cost $17. I also thought those cake pop things they sold during Christmas were rock hard, I couldn’t even break them apart with the knife and fork. It had the texture of hard ceramic and tasted awful. I recommend the 3 broomsticks, never here even if you’re a fan of Mario.

Probably the best food at Universal Studios. Def make a reservation, this place is packed constantly! The quality of food is great! The prices are ultra high but yeah that’s what you expect from a theme park eatery.
The mushroom soup was excellent from what I was told by mushroom soup lovers with me lol. The burger was good and my 1lb Bowsers fireball challenge was AMAZE!!!!!
Yes the line is absurdly long and yes the prices are insanely high but the food is really good and the atmosphere is fun and entertaining. Very much recommend!!!

The kids love it here. But jesus. This place misplaced our order and it took 30 min to get our food. Also don’t waste money on the princess peach cupcake (take a photos of someone else’s, it all sugar and could be from Ralph’s). The Mario burger and Luigi burgers were great (comes with Fries). Finally; Mario>Luigi

Toadstool Café completely exceeded my expectations and is easily the best restaurant inside Universal Studios Hollywood. The food is surprisingly impressive for a theme park—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Every dish we tried was excellent.
The atmosphere is next level. The theming and decor are incredible, and it truly feels like you’ve stepped right into the Mushroom Kingdom. The attention to detail is amazing, and it’s fun for both kids and adults.
One standout touch: when you order soup, it comes in a keepsake bowl you can take home, which our kids absolutely loved.
Between the quality of the food, the creative presentation, and the immersive environment, this is easily the top dining experience in the park. A must-visit if you’re spending the day at Universal!

Overpriced theme restaurant. $25 pork dish was barely warm with small piece of dry pork with mushrooms sauce. Cute but not that cute. Burger was also dry and nothing special other than a plastic Mario stuck on top. Spaghetti was Spaghetti, not really themed. Best thing was the dessert but still jist OK.

There are fun toads to look at ❤️❤️ the food decor looks good. On the other hand, food tastes ok. Not good, not bad. Coin cookie a bit too sweet. Would recommend if you love Mario. Most food was lukewarm, but but burger and fries were stale Also make sure to get the drink! Our reservation was at 12:15 but we got our food at 1:00!!

I reserved time for lunch at Toadstool cafe but we were able to walk in a bit early right before the lunch rush. After ordering at the cashier, we had to wait to be seated at designated table by the staff. We had to wait quite some time for our food (around 20 minutes) as the cafe became busier. The decoration inside the cafe was stunning! The details was amazing and super cute. The cafe light was dimmed when there was an ‘attack’ on the TV. Overall, it was an exciting experience for us.
– Luigi burger: it was a good burger. The pesto sauce was our favorite & super good. The fries were delicious and crispy & well seasoned (not too salty).
– Mario mini burger kids meal: it was cute and perfect for kids with veggie & small treat (chocolate) too. The burger itself was just ok. The bun was rather dry but the patty was ok. The fries were crispy and tasty. The steamed broccoli were tender yet still had crunch and the corn was sweet.
– Garlic knots: good. The bread was soft, fluffy, and just enough garlic. The marinara sauce was good but nothing special.
– Short rib: just okay. The rib was a bit tough but flavorful. The polenta was smooth and tasty. The red wine reduction sauce was good but the cheesy ‘white dots’ on the sauce was super good.

The atmosphere was great because it is themed as expected. We setup a time to eat dinner because of the amount of people there. Then the HUGE letdown. Absolutely no customer service, no waiters, no one came to talk to us, no one brought us drinks or nothing. We sat there for over an hour for a burger and fries. It looked good until you ate the food. My burger was cold and some of my fries were hard and cold. Absolutely not worth the wait. The atmosphere as nice at it is, it soon becomes repetitive since you are sitting there starring at each other for an hour. Recommend go to Disney: at least they have waiters that bring your drinks and appetizers before the main course.
