A very unique top tier restaurant located off the grid in the “Hood”. If your touring it’s worth a detour off the main food path.

Tipo is a neighborhood Italian restaurant in Portland, Maine. It is located in the Back Cove neighborhood, just a short walk from the waterfront. The restaurant has a bright and airy interior, with a large open kitchen and plenty of natural light. The menu features a variety of Italian dishes, including wood-fired pizzas, handmade pastas, and seasonal entrees.

Tipo is the restaurant you want to go to with family, on a girl’s night or on a date night. It has an eclectic menu that allows the finicky eater options as well as amazing delights for the foodie. I personally love their small plates especially the beef carpaccio, cauliflower dip and meatballs.

Delicious upscale neighborhood spot with patio seating. Most allergy friendly menu I’ve ever seen! Made a reservation via Rezy but it didn’t go through (be sure you get the text or email or just call) but they graciously accommodated us at the bar which was perfect. We watched the very busy pizza makers managing the brick oven expertly. Delicious food, great service. We shared a pizza and pasta both were perfect.

Tipo is great! They have a great menu and a wide selection of fresh Italian foods! It was very hard to choose what to get because everything just sounded so delicious on the menu! The arancini was the start of the show and the rye cavatelli was flavorful and absolutely delicious!!! The pizza was good, but not the absolute best I’ve had in Portland. Their sauce is thick and the crust is floppy—whereas I prefer a thinner sauce with a bit of a crisp. However, I’m happy I tried it but I would probably get a pasta next time! Tipo still deserves 4 stars as the food was good, the service was great and the atmosphere was comfortable. Some off-street parking, but plan for the street just in case. Reservations recommended!

Our server, Cassie, was amazing. I asked if she was a manager because she knew so much about the food and drink. She told us they were all trained to know the ingredients. Our meal…..phenomenal. The layers of the flavors were exceptional. We enjoyed the heirloom tomato crostini with shrimp and grapefruit……also the beef carpaccio and finally shared the house made spaghetti and meatballs. What a difference when it is all house made and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back! The inside of the restaurant is small and the outside seating is lovely but not all covered. Definitely make reservations. Also, we were impressed with the prices, vrry reasonable.

Nice touch having heated seats for outdoor dining (adds to the outdoor atmosphere), as well as having a very traditional Italian drink, the Aperol Spritz. The service was very good, although we were surprised to receive our bowl of brussels (nice flavor) before the entrees and to be served serving spoons to eat the chewy cannoli. I have to say that I found the garlic bread focaccia to be a bit spongy and the seared scallop entree to be a bit meager, although tasty. Marinated mushrooms were picante.I am being somewhat critical based on the cost of everything. With higher prices, I expect higher quality . Overall, it was a very pleasant dining experience.

Literally the best Italian food that I ever had in Maine. Starting with the fried eggplant & arancini to the spicy pork ragu and then finishing with the tiramisu. Cannot wait till I come here again with my husband.

Incredibly creative Italian dishes. Love the mortadella pizza, rye cavatelli, and the New Yorker pizza that has Brooklyn flavors on a Neapolitan pie. Never misses. Great space inside and out. Super family friendly. Travels well for delivery and takeout. They also sell frozen pizza dough for pizza night at home.
