It’s a cute space with a train theme. It looks like the kinda place that would have Buffalo plaid accents so it’s sorta surprising that it doesn’t. If this restaurant was next to the Red Barn Market (also in Puyallup), the aesthetic would be peak suburban-bordering-rural. Multiple booths around the lower level seating looked comfy & were full. The upper level has 5 4-top tables, 3 2-tops, & narrow chairs that are very ‘simple American diner’ types-any bump would spill a very full cup. We’d love to see the site do well enough to upgrade the tables to booths on the upper level, as it seems sorta disjointed with the different types. It was all very clean.
The noise level is the upper level of moderate bordering on loud/talkable. The music was from a single speaker & was loud enough to be heard over the talking. There was 90s/early 2000s country playing.
We started with coffee & OJ. The juice tasted almost like fresh-squeezed & wasn’t overly cold, though the coffee was pretty weak. Sugar/substitutes on the table & French Vanilla creamer pods were brought with it. Our server seemed to be handling most of not all of the upper level tables so she was constantly busy. She asked twice about a coffee refill, & was able to do so on the second ask. I think us knowing what we wanted fairly quickly helped her.
We got the chicken (strips) & waffles and the chicken fried steak & eggs.
The strips were lightly breaded & the chicken was cooked well, but both were pretty bland. The butter on the waffles had touched one of the strips & ended up using some of the extra butter to give the rest of the strips more flavor. The waffles were a perfect Belgian, the cinnamon worked great! It needed the syrup though-it didn’t really work well without it. The butter was interesting: it looked like it either wasn’t fully creamed together or maybe had some separation, because the scoop was melty on the outside but inside almost had the consistency of semi-cooked cake, for lack of a better way to describe it. Pretty thick but inconsistent & a bit globby. We ended up taking half the waffle home & think it’ll be a good snack later.
The CFC was pretty good! The breading was a bit thick and didn’t adhere well to the chicken when cut, but the chicken was juicy and the breading itself was crispy and had good flavor. The white gravy was fine but wasn’t really amazing. The eggs & hash browns were perfect, and the sourdough toast was solid. It wasn’t a strong sour so it was great for jam, and it looked like it was from a handmade loaf.
We will definitely be back! The menu had a lot of options and we want to try quite a few of them.
Following a long 4 days giving trail rides at the Pierce County Fair, I was scheduled for PT, or so I thought. I wound up getting there 24 hours ahead of schedule, thanks to a rescheduling glitch and not informing me.
Ray and I had more fair business to conduct but breakfast came first. A couple places which sounded interesting turned out to be no due to a serious lack of parking. A couple of roads later, there was Tim’s.
We were greeted and seated almost immediately. Water, hot coffee, and French Vanilla creamer for me, arrived right after it was offered.
After going over their extensive breakfast AND lunch menus, we decided on breakfast. Ray ordered the Lumberjack Hobo Hash and an English muffin. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak with scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese, country potatoes, and sourdough toast.
Tim’s is well known for their big breakfasts. This one did not disappoint. My chicken fried steak arrived on its own plate it was so large! Nice thick piece of meat, cooked to perfection. The gravy was very flavorful.
My scrambled eggs were loaded with cheese. It bc was loaded inside and out, with more cheese on top.
Ray’s hash was huge and filled his entire plate. There was enough left over for at least 2 more meals at home. Ditto for my breakfast too.
I highly recommend Tim’s for any meal of the day. The service is always fast, friendly and efficient. Their chicken is fabulous too. It was hard to decide whether to have chicken fried steak or chicken and waffles as both are so good!! We will definitely be back!!!
You could truly see how hardworking Jamie was — even while staying busy, she never made us feel rushed and always made us feel valued. Her friendly personality and excellent service made our evening extra special.
Thank you, Jamie, for making our dinner such a wonderful experience! We will definitely be back.
Pros: The food was served in generous portions, seemed fresh, was cooked well, and tasted good. Servers were friendly and seemed to be generally busy and attentive. Restaurant seemed clean and our table was comfortable.
Cons: Took several minutes to be noticed at the door when we arrived- not too big of a deal overall. Our teas were not refilled and we were checked on just once right after food arrived. We did not call anyone over for refills- they seemed busy and again, wasn’t a deal breaker for us but might be an annoyance for some. The salad bar was sorely lacking. Almost everything was empty or close to it. Some items didn’t seem super fresh- peas, mushrooms mainly. Again, I didn’t ask for attention to this because it looked like they were working on it or we’re busy with other things. The lettuce, peppers, broccoli, cheese, tomatoes were fresh and made for a fine enough salad. I don’t know if I misunderstood the menu, but I ordered a hamburger steak dinner. I said salad for my side but wasn’t asked about a second side. I received just the salad bowl and the hamburger steak with no second side or biscuit. My husband also didn’t receive his English muffin for his breakfast. Again, if I had been particularly hungry or picky I would have asked more questions, but chose not to.
We are pretty low- maintenance diners, and didn’t feel like anything was enough of a problem to bother anyone, but we know some of these things would be a bigger problem for others. I might be willing to give it one more try at some point, but it was just “fine”.
