I stopped by this place based on good reviews but the food was pretty disappointing. The chicken tikka masala sauce was too salty and sweet. It tasted like it was made from ketchup or something. The saag paneer was even worse because it was very chunky with large pieces of cooked spinach and other stuff. I had to take out the paneer and blend the remaining stuff to make a sauce out of it. I’ve never had to do that with Indian food I’ve ordered. The two dishes also had very little chicken and paneer. The place seemed reasonably nice inside for a fast casual restaurant. Perhaps they’re more focused on the Nepali food, but I’d pass on the Indian options

My friend and I have been coming here since the restaurant first opened, and we have never experienced anything as shocking as what happened tonight. As soon as the owner who is always courteous stepped out, the staff’s behavior became absolutely unacceptable.

We ordered Gobi Manchurian. The first version was extremely spicy, so we requested an adjustment. The second version was so sour it was inedible. When we politely asked for it to be replaced, a staff member became disrespectful and abruptly told us to leave because “the kitchen was closed.”

We asked to speak to the owner directly, but this individual refused and would not provide any contact. Instead, he took our picture without consent and continued to harass us. This behavior felt intimidating and completely unprofessional, especially toward female customers.

After being loyal customers for years, we are deeply disappointed. We will not be returning and strongly caution others especially women to avoid this place until they address staff behavior and basic customer decency. Their photo is attached. Please avoid at all costs!

We stopped by this place recently and had such a great experience. The service was super quick, which I really appreciated, and the food was absolutely delicious.
We ordered the tikka masala, chicken biryani, tandoori chicken, samosa chaat, and dahi puri and honestly, everything was packed with flavor. The chicken in both the tikka masala and biryani was juicy and tender, and the spices were spot on. One thing you have to try is their coconut naan! It’s so soft, slightly sweet, and perfect for scooping up that tikka masala sauce.
The samosa chaat and dahi puri were both fresh and full of flavor too, crispy, tangy, and just the right amount of spice. I finished off with a cup of chai, and it was warm, comforting, and a great way to end the meal.
Definitely recommend if you’re craving some good Indian/ Nepalese food with fast service!

Tilak Indian/ Nepali Cuisine in Menlo Park is hands-down one of the best spots for Nepali and Indian food. The moment you walk in, it feels cozy and welcoming nice décor, chill atmosphere, and super friendly staff who actually seem happy you’re there. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, talk, and really enjoy your meal.

The food is the real obsession-level part. Their momos are insanely good juicy, flavorful, and addictive. The Nepali dishes taste like real home cooking, and the Indian curries are rich, balanced, and never one-note. Fresh naan, generous portions, and fair prices seal the deal. Every time I leave Tilak, I’m full, satisfied, and already planning my next visit.

I have been eating at Tilak for years. So, at this point the staff and the whole team have become friends. However, I can still objectively that the food here is wonderful. Around the corner from the restaurant, my uncle and I run a bookstore and we are always delighted to be able to smell the cooking from across the street—scents of Nepal and India that suggest the cuisine that is as delicious as it is nourishing. I love the momos personally (vegetarian or chicken) but also the daal and the dishes with eggplant and of course their chicken tikka masala—a favorite.
Come for the food but stay for the community and the wonderful people.
PS—they also serve Taj Mahal beer—have a cold one ❤️

Delicious indian food although not too spicy (for me and my friend that was ok). Loved the marsala chai (unsweetened – perfect… I’m cutting back on sugar!). Server was extremely polite and professional. I highly recommend this place.
