On a bustling Saturday night in Bayside, Tihu feels less like a quiet neighborhood spot and more like a lively Taipei side street café. Every table is filled, the air hums with conversation, and the steady stream of takeout orders tells you this place has earned its following.
With only three staff members managing the floor, the pace is understandably slower than typical. Orders take time, dishes arrive in waves, and patience becomes part of the dining experience. But once the food hits the table, any frustration fades quickly.
The flavors are deeply comforting and authentically Taiwanese — rich broths, balanced seasoning, and the kind of home-style cooking that prioritizes taste over presentation. Each dish delivers warmth and depth, the kind that keeps locals returning despite the wait.
Ambiance: Casual, lively, neighborhood comfort
Service: Friendly but stretched thin during peak hours
Food: Excellent, authentic Taiwanese comfort dishes
Wait Time: Longer on weekends — plan accordingly
⭐ Worth the wait if you’re there for the food, not the speed.
The stinky tofu was fine — not bad, but not very strong. The pickled cabbage really had almost no flavor, which took away from the dish.
The fried chicken cutlet portion was big, but the seasoning was very light, so it didn’t have that satisfying punch of flavor you expect from Taiwanese chicken cutlet.
The pork chop rice was the biggest letdown. The pork chop was huge but was a bit tough and mild in flavor, and the braised minced pork on the rice was quite dry and lacking seasoning, which made the rice feel disappointing overall.
Not the worst, but definitely hoped for stronger and more authentic flavors.
Overall, the food was just average. Some dishes captured the authentic Taiwanese flavors, but my standards for Taiwan is cruising are quite high. The only dish I can truly recommend is the hakka stirfry mini squid. That said, I can’t judge too harshly since we didn’t try the pork chop or a salt and pepper chicken over rice-either of which could have changed experience entirely. Wishing them the best of luck, and always happy to support small businesses!
From the first bite, it was clear that this isn’t your average street food. There’s a noticeable elevation in the quality and presentation, but thankfully, the authentic taste remains completely intact. It’s like a delicious flashback to the night markets of Taipei – the same incredible aromas, the same satisfying textures, and those unmistakable, bold flavors that define Taiwanese cuisine.
If you’re craving a true taste of Taiwan without the long flight, look no further. This spot has managed to capture the magic and deliver an experience that genuinely competes with the real deal. Highly, highly recommended!
The food has a familiar taste of home. The oyster pancake is one of the best! It has a lot of oysters! It is absolutely amazing and fresh.
The beef noodles were good, I was expecting a
Slight heat.
The chicken in wine is soo soo delicious you taste the wine and the way the chicken tastes is just wordless.
The tomatoe beef reminds me of my mom’s cooking. It was so good the tomatoes taste like tomatoes not tomatoe light. You know you know.
Will come back for more of the taste from home.
