Being a former Thundercloud Sandwich Artist in my teenage years, I was so excited to be back in Austin and that there was a Thundercloud at the Airport. However, the two girls working this morning were rude and dismissive and honestly ruined the experience. They seemed annoyed that I was ordering and so inconvenienced… they rushed through my sandwich making it hard for me to customize it. They made my sandwich carelessly and angrily, barely communicating the toppings. After I paid, i stood there confused if i should grab my bag or not cause they didn’t say anything or hand it to me just walked away until I asked if I was good to go. Mind you, i was the only one in line so not sure what they were so pissed off and in such a rush for.
Whatever happened to the Thundercloud subs I grew up with? Where the workers were “weird”, had good vibes and were happy to be there?!

I love thunderclouds, but this airport location has a much smaller menu, as well as no seating. If you’re looking for something to grab and run, this is fine, but if you have an hour to kill, I would go someplace else.

The young lady who made my Texas Tuna was very nice and made my sandwich well. The guy at the register however didn’t say a word to me. It would have been nice to know my $16 sandwich comes with chips and a drink. I saw the sign pop up on the board and asked the young lady then she said it loudly to the people in front of of me. As this guy at the register was just going to let us all walk way without the chips and drink. The 5 stars is for her! The rest can be improved. Sandwiches are fresh though, it’s just falling apart since the bread was cut all the way through.

Overall: 2.7/5 [take out]
I was craving a sandwich and came across Thundercloud Subs at the Austin airport so we decided to try it. We ordered the Austin Club sub ($15.50), which comes with a bag of chips of your choice and a drink. We chose Garden Salsa Sun Chips and added a Love Street Blonde beer for an extra $3, though we were required to open the beer in front of the cashier, which was a bit odd. We also asked for gloves and had our sandwich cut in half, which made eating and cleanup much easier.
For the Austin Club sub, we opted for white bread and added ham. However, when we opened it, we noticed several issues: the bread wasn’t toasted, the meat portions were skimpy, and the chicken looked more like white ham. The sandwich was smaller than expected and very basic–something I could have grabbed pre-made elsewhere. Although it didn’t taste bad, for same price point, I could get a better tasting & customizable foot long sub at Subways.

My fiance and I got a cold sub here. My fiance accidentally entered through the wrong line to order food. I was on the other end. Be mindful, there was no line or anyone waiting to get a sub from them. Evan and especially Steven, went rogue on my fiance about entering through the line. It was an honest mistake and he also apologized for it. But Evan continued giving him shit and misbehaving. Idk if it’s because our ethnicity and skin color, but I bet such an honest mistake by their fellow Caucasian wouldn’t have been such a big deal. And what most bizarre is that Evan called himself and Steven the “supervisors” of the place. So I know for sure there’s no one above them to confront their behavior. But if this helps anyone consumer, so be it.

Well, I am a lifelong Thunder Cloud fan and frequently visit the one in the airport almost on a weekly basis. Not anymore. I noticed the young woman slicing tomatoes taken directly from the produce box. I asked her if the tomatoes were washed, she looked at me and said they are already prewashed prior to delivery and they don’t need to wash them. The CDC has some strict guidance of washing produce prior to serving for restaurants that Thunder cloud may want to invest in training their people. With so many issues with food chain contamination and immune issues, I am very saddened that a beloved Austin company is lax on its health protocols.

Great option in an airport that only provides local vendors. I love that about the Austin airport. This is my first thundercloud sub. Went with the Italian on white. Wish there were a toasted option with a ton of cheese! But this is very good

Decent size portion. The rolls may look small but they’re not stingy with fillings. Solid overall and better than Sub—y.

Wanted a nice sandwich to take on the plane to eat later so we thought we would give ThunderCloud a go. Was met with a line that only ha d a few people ahead of us. Unfortunately the line didn’t move very fast and the employees (when we made it to the counter to order) were not the most helpful. We asked a few questions having never eaten there and you would have thought we asked the world of them. Not patient and not very friendly.
The sandwich was good and turned out to be a great carryon dinner. Just wish that the experience at the point of sale was better.

They force you to buy a drink and chips even if you don’t want one. Corporate greed at its best. This is the first 1 star review I’ve ever left.
