Thirty Bales is a celebration of everything Midwestern cuisine has to offer. We’re an upbeat neighborhood restaurant bringing together bright personalities, bold recipes, clean ingredients and craft spirits and playing with the flavors that make the Midwest a place unlike any other. If you’re curious about our name, it comes from the legend of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. As the story goes, Babe had an appetite as big as Bunyan himself and is rumored to have eaten 30 bales of hay a day. Like our restaurant’s big blue spirit animal, we’re a pack of people that lives to eat and drink. We’re endlessly in love with the Midwest and its connection to seasonal ingredients grown close to home. It’s what inspires our menu and our team,

Delightful brunch experience. Fluffy pancakes, lightly crisped and chewy thick-cut bacon, and the chorizo biscuits and gravy piled high with sauteed veggies and chipotle aioli were fantastic. Friendly service, and overall a great value for the quality of food.

The food was absolutely amazing the was such great options we struggled to pick one! The lasagna is the best lasagna I’ve ever had and the walleye dish was such a great choice for a cold day! The service was some of the highest quality of service I’ve seen in a long time our server was SO attentive and helpful! We enjoyed the entire experience and definitely recommend!

We really liked Thirty Bales. The food was delicious- I had the Poutine and my wife had the spicy chicken sandwich. Her only minor suggestion was that the focaccia felt like it was not the best bun choice, but the chicken was fantastic with a really good spicy sauce. Our server was prompt, helpful and friendly. We had a great experience and will be back again in the future.

The service is friendly but very slow. We were here for about an hour and only got refills once on water/soda because it took forever. The atmosphere was fine. It wasn’t too crowded so you could easily get a table or a seat at the bar and this is at approx 545sh PM on a Friday.

I haven’t been here since the pandemic and wow! They completely renovated the interior and recently added a covered outdoor patio with sun shades and it’s such a nice place to eat with family or friends! Sam was an AWESOME server and super knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations! I’m definitely recommending this place to more friends and relatives! The Bol du Nord was so filling and delicious, and the mushroom sauce in it wasn’t too heavy or thick at all. The bread pudding was the perfect dessert choice – it comes in a martini glass too which made for a fun presentation.

We took a bike ride to Hopkins today with my daughter, her husband and two small children to check out the local fair. Once there we decided to stop for lunch but since we were on bikes and had two small children, we looked for a place to eat out side. We came across Thirty Bailes. There were two occupied tables in the outside seating area, one of which had a dog, and two tables occupied inside the restaurant. We went inside to ask if we could put two additional chairs at a table outside so we could accommodate the six of us. They looked at us and told us no that wouldn’t be possible. We had to eat inside or not at all. So we left. It appears that they were able to accommodate a dog but not too small children outside. They weren’t even real nice about it. They lost our business that day for good.

I mean… It’s pretty decent. We stopped by for dinner on a whim and we were not disappointed. Might stop back if we’re in the area again. I can imagine coming here with the extended family to celebrate kindergarten graduation or new karate belts.
