Ordered a cheesecake in early November for a December birthday. Called the morning of pickup to confirm the 10am time and was told it wouldn’t be ready until the afternoon because of a mix-up (sounded like they forgot the order). Not a huge deal, but annoying for an order placed 4 weeks in advance.

Picked it up later that day and got home to realize it was completely frozen. It was cut (unevenly) before pick up which was weird but we took it home anyways because we needed it that night. Once it thawed, we discovered the center wasn’t fully baked and was goopy like pudding.

We called and were told to submit a refund request online, which we did, but it’s been 4 weeks and we’ve heard nothing. $60 for a late, frozen, underbaked cheesecake that didn’t even look like the picture online.

The part that was edible tasted fine, but overall pretty disappointing. It was the way this was handled that will make us never go back here again. Mistakes happen, but bad service is avoidable.

Fancy a cup of coffee and baked goods. Join them at the cleverly named Thirsty Whale. We ordered a vanilla latte and an orange/cranberry scone. The latte hot and with a lightly herbed vanilla essence. The scone not too sweet, with lots and large cranberries. The undertone of orange citrus flavor of the scone elevated the baked good. In my opinion you pair the firm, but not hard scone with a warm cup of your choice coffee, will make your experience enjoyable.

We did our wedding desserts through their Minneapolis location a couple of years ago, so it was only natural to want to see if they could do something special for our wedding anniversary. I reached out to the bakery via email & had very prompt and easy communication with them about my custom inquiry. I was able to order one of their 4″ “Teeny Cakes” customized to our original wedding flavor (chocolate with raspberry mousse) and they even offered to write on it for us. Since it was custom, the price went up slightly, but it was still very reasonable. We even decided to grab some other treats when we went in to pickup the cake – their donuts are all so fantastic – the blueberry old fashioned donut was to die for! Absolutely will be ordering from them again.

We ordered a custom cake from Thirsty Whale Bakery for my son’s 6th birthday party, and they absolutely knocked it out of the park! It was a stunning 3-tier Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cake that exceeded all expectations. I had sent in three different inspiration photos, and somehow they combined all the elements into one cohesive masterpiece that had everyone in awe.

Not only was it a showstopper visually, but the cake was also incredibly delicious. We got so many compliments from guests—kids and adults alike! Thirsty Whale truly brought our vision to life and made my son’s special day even more memorable. Highly recommend for any custom cake needs!

I left a negative review regarding my experience with The Thirsty Whale Bakery , Wayzata location .
The response that I received from the management staff this morning is even more shocking !!!
They are trying to justify their poor service.
SEE THE ATTACHED EMAIL
I did not order a custom cake , I ordered a signature cake that per their website is a 24 hour turnaround time which I placed my order 30 hours in advance .
Possibly they should update their website if the turnaround time during a holiday time is greater that 24 hours for a signature cake
Per their staff , the production team apparently was out of town visiting family on Saturday December 6th therefore failed to make my cake .
I can’t say this enough however the
THIRSTY WHALE BAKERY is no longer the bakery that it originally was .
They are very unreliable!!!

Stopped in for the first time

I got the seasonal pumpkin cheesecake, doughnut of which it is my favorite donut that I’ve ever consumed in my life

I ordered a honey and cinnamon miel and enjoy that beverage a lot as well!

I would recommend this place to anybody

Thirsty Whale in Wayzata was a busy little cafe on the Saturday we went, with a constant flow of customers, and well staffed service to keep the line moving. The selection of baked goods by 10am was somewhat picked over, but there were still plenty of options to choose from. The chocolate croissant was not good – tasted like a grocery store pre-packaged pastry (even Trader Joes frozen croissants are 100% better!) – should be taken off the menu. Chocolate glazed donut and espresso were good. And the ice cream was fantastic (espresso chip & lemon blueberry), however it’s Wayzata pricing, we paid $28 plus tip for a pint and a quart.

Thirsty Whale has a super cool vibe in a cute location in the middle of downtown Wayzata. I love that we have such a great boutique coffee option now that Starbucks and Caribou moved off of Lake Street. They also have incredible donuts! 10 out of 10. Five stars. Highly recommend. .
