Thelewala in the Village is a great spot if you’re looking for quick, flavorful Indian street food. I tried the rolls, and they were packed with flavor the kind of seasoning that hits right away but still feels balanced. The texture of the bread and the filling together makes it really satisfying.
The hot sauce is another standout. It’s actually spicy, not watered down or mild, and has a deep, rich flavor that works perfectly with the rolls. You can tell it’s made with care because it adds heat without overpowering everything else.
It’s a small spot, but the food comes out fast, and everything tastes fresh. If you’re in the area and want something tasty and casual with real Indian street-food flavor, Thelewala is definitely worth stopping by.

My first time trying a Kathi roll but overall not bad. I got the chicken roll and it had great flavors with a nice spicy kick. Seating though is very limited and if getting for take out to eat in the park, it can get a bit messy and is not the easiest thing to eat on a park bench. They do fortunately provide a lot of napkins though.

If you are the ‘spicy eater’ of your friend group I HIGHLY recommend the Chicken Phall Roll. It’s the perfect combination of SPICY and FLAVOR. Soooo much flavor with good heat. I could eat this daily if I lived closer.

Good place for quick Indian bites and rolls. Have veg and non veg rolls.

Had their Chicken Malai Roll – costed about 11$ (in cash). It tasted good, but would not say that it was the best Kolkata kathi roll in New York.
Had kathi rolls at the Kathi Roll Company (Bryant Park) and at Chote Miya (Chelsea Market) as well. Would rank the rank the Kathi Roll we had here at the last in terms of taste and price. Felt that it was a little on the pricier side given that the other places price the same item much less but are more flavorful. Nonetheless, it is a good option if you are craving a Kolkata kathi roll and this is the easiest option, then give it a try.
It’s a small place, so very limited seating space available.
Also paying by cash costs a little less than paying by credit card.

Best place in town to eat Kathi rolls. I personally enjoyed the chata pata paneer roll here. It is very tasty and flavorful. I have been there almost 3-4 times while our trip in NY. They have many other options in menu and give quick service. They have only a few tables for outdoor seating.

I come from Telangana in India, a state that prizes itself in authentic delicious and extremely spicy food. But what I got here was some sort of vengeance from the cooks. The amount of green chillis in the phal roll was absurd. The cooks made it with an agenda to burn me. There was no flavor and I was simply assaulted with green chilies. If an ulcer is what the owner means with rating then I think he or she or they needs to desperately try what they are serving and not simply hand over their store to cooks who have no idea what a Kathi roll means. Worst experience in NY and will never let anyone I know ever go there.

Best Kati roll in town. Jhaal moori is excellent as well. Have been coming here for years now and it is still special. Small place — so inside sitting is a hit or miss.

I guess I have been long enough in US now that I totally forgot how flavourful Indian food can be. God, I missed some raw green chilly, lemon and cilantro. I ordered some veg roll and bhel puri. This place left my palate satisfied and thankful.
Tea sucks. It’s mostly water. Expecting a good tea is probably too much to ask anyways.

If you are someone who loves chaat or rolls then this place is for you. Place is very small and lovely but gets very crowded during weekends. I tried their bhel puri and it was delicious. We also tried their chatpata paneer roll and trust me the taste truly describes its name. Definitely worth a try and rates are nominal too.
