We were on our way through and were looking for something local. Let me tell you, the food is fresh and hot and the folks are really friendly. A great combo when on a long trip. If you like pork rinds they are outstanding! Dip them in the homemade ranch if you want to live on the edge! BBQ was really good, prices are very reasonable and portions are large.

We came in after the Saturday evening rush. Greeted by two smiling waitresses and also the “cook” who I assume may be the owner. The food was absolutely awesome. The ribs were smoked to perfection and the hushpuppies were awesome too. Will definitely come back next year when we’re in town.

Adventures in North Carolina BBQ! I’ve passed this place a bunch of times, either on the way to/from The Reeves Theatre in Elkin for open mic night (which is amazing btw) and also during the 21 Road market and other forays up to Elkin and points north. Old school NC BBQ joints are definitely my jam; I much prefer places like this to stuffy, nouveau-hipster BBQ and the Wood Box did not disappoint! I had a classic chopped plate with BBQ slaw (aka “Red Slaw,” unique to Carolina for the uninitiated) and Mac and Cheese. Also had one of their famous hot dogs (not pictured) – Carolina style (of course) and it was amazing. The BBQ was house hickory smoked and was of the superb quality you can expect from a family owned old school joint like this. Eastern vinegar and western hickory sauces available here…I tried both and for me the vinegar sauce slightly edged out its tomato based cousin. The hush puppies were sublime as well and the BBQ slaw equally delicious. BONUS: pretty much an inflation fighter too, as most old school NC BBQ joints are. So glad I finally had a chance to try this and I will be back! Overall: 5 snouts!

Best BBQ I’ve ever had! My husband and I came here for lunch and had the chopped pulled pork and ribs, along with cole slaw and hush puppies. Everything was so delicious, and the service was great. The meats had just the right amount of smoky taste, and the hush puppies were soft and sweet on the inside and crunchy on the outside. We will definitely be coming back!

This place was okay. I got a half chicken (it was a little small) with mac and cheese, a baked potato (it was REALLY small), and a roll (standard store bought). The food was okay, and for that I have a hard time justifying the price. My server was great, friendly and respectful. The other server talked about me like I wasn’t there and talked about every customer that she saw walking to the door. The interior is small, but there’s plenty of parking. This place is okay, and decent for the area.

Cute little spot!! Mixed match tables and chairs. It is a tight space but I think it just adds to the character. Everyone here is super friendly. Food is great! Major PLUS IS THEY ARE OPEN ON SUNDAY!!

wow… nice BBQ…It was prepped with no sauce, so it was dry.. They ran out of sweet BBQ sauce. Got sweet hot… it was tangy. It is a nice place, had a great waitress. Sauce served in small cups, no bottles on tables.
Our order was served up in 10 minutes, so pretty quick.
potato salad needed a bit of crunch, the Mac and cheese was creamy and to die for…
Overall, a really nice small town Mom and Pop BBQ joint that is getting by the best they can serving real good BBQ…
We’re 40 miles away so can’t return too often, but we will

After touring the nearby Raffaldini Vineyard and 11am wine tasting, we were ready for lunch.

The wood Box BBQ & Ribs caught or attention, eye catching storefront and the aroma of NC mountain BBQ can effect one’s decision making “let me tell you “ we turned around and walked right into history.

It was a fun stop with locals enjoying this every day lunch. We tourists however felt right at home “sit anywhere you like” said the hostess/waitress/cashier. The menus were hand written in magic marker. One of our couples shared the rack of ribs and were fully satisfied with the meal. My wife had the vegetable plate and I ordered the traditional pulled pork BBQ with vinegar sauce.

Is your mouth watering? Mine was just ordering our meal.

What fun we had talking with the two older “Southern Bells” at the table next to owners. Farmers wives with barnyard stories of raising animals (including porkers)

If you get a chance, skip the cookie cutter fast food and try some slow cooking for a change.

Nice little restaurant that served my meal quickly. Staff is friendly and helpful. Cute little pigs out front. Why eat at a chain when you can get better value at a mom and pop?
