This Bird has my heart! The food never disappoints here. The services excellent. What more could you ask for? We arrived on a Saturday night after tournament and called ahead of time to make a reservation, but didn’t need to. We work early for the dinner crowd, though as well. Staff greeted us, and sat us promptly. They little candle at our table for a cute little ambience. Our waitress is very knowledgeable with the specials and shared with us some recommendations that we requested. We ordered two entres, and then and entré to go (which reheated very nicely in the air fryer). This is such a treat For the iron range to have such a nice restaurant. I’m from Central Minnesota and there is a good group of us that rave about this place and we’ll even make special day trips to go visit. We will be back! Thanks for being so excellent. and such a special Caribbean treat.

We had the most amazing meal at the Whistling Bird Restaurant in Gilbert, MN! Everything was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. We ordered the Jerk Platter with chicken, pork tenderloin, and bacon-wrapped shrimp-each bite was tender, perfectly seasoned, and full of that authentic Caribbean flair. The coconut shrimp with mango salsa was a perfect start-crispy, sweet, and tangy all at once.
To top it all off, the Key Lime Pie was the perfect ending-light, creamy, and refreshingly tart.
A huge shout out to Cassie, our server, who made the experience even better. She was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Between the incredible food, warm atmosphere, and wonderful service, we can’t wait to come back again!!

I first discovered the Whistling Bird during a work trip back in 2002 while on the road for a Twin Cities TV station. We were covering a story in Eveleth, and my crew knew of this unique spot in Gilbert. Even with only vague memories from 24 years ago, I knew it was worth a return visit.
Finding ourselves in the area for Valentine’s Day 2026, we called ahead to see if they had space. They were hosting a special 6-course dinner with a complimentary champagne toast, so we decided to go for it.
This place is truly special. The staff are incredibly welcoming, and the food is outstanding—truly not what you’d expect for the location. Every course was incredible, and I wouldn’t hesitate to order any of those dishes again.

Solid location for Caribbean food. Arguably the best wings in the entire iron range! Super positive atmosphere, and maybe the best service in the Iron Range. You can’t go wrong, I’d keep coming back!

There isn’t one thing we haven’t enjoyed! Favorite go to appetizers are the bacon wrapped shrimp, chips with pineapple salsa, and french fries with hollandaise sauce. Favorite entrees are stuffed salmon and coconut shrimp. Favorite drinks are Sangria and Red Stripe beer.
It’s become a favorite for a late lunch or supper, and we make a point to stop whenever drive through Gilbert.

Where to start?!? Each visit at The Whistling Bird does not disappoint. Now & again they open up early for a special brunch menu that changes each time keeping things fresh & surprising. This Sunday the menu included options like coconut custard French toast, chicken biscuits and gravy, Mediterranean omelettes, lobster eggs Benedict, seafood stuffed home fries, a breakfast burger, fried green tomato BLT, and the absolute WINNER- a jerk pulled pork gyro! They also offered mimosas (along with their normal cocktail menu) and 2 dessert options of a coconut rum cremé brulee and a coconut crusted pineapple sundae! If that doesn’t have you salivating, you might need your taste buds checked Pictures included were obviously not taken at the beginning of the meal- everything was just too good to not dig in straight away! We ordered the gyro, chicken & biscuits, the BLT, and the brulee.
