Wales Tail Clam Shack delivers a fantastic East Coast clam shack experience, hitting all the right notes for delicious seafood. Our dinner was a triumph of flavors, starting with wonderful hush puppies infused with crab meat and a truly excellent clam chowder. My wife’s fried fish was perfectly cooked and complemented by wonderful-tasting onion rings. You absolutely *must* try their Lobster Rolls – they’re a signature dish for a reason! Located right on the pier by the big boats, this spot offers not just great food but also a palpable connection to New Bedford’s rich maritime past, a city that once stood as the whaling capital of the world.

The atmosphere here is an absolute highlight, earning a perfect 10/10 with its fun red-checkered floors and red tables, big yellow umbrellas, and the energetic bustle of the working waterfront. While the service, rated 7/10, was adequate, the overall experience more than compensates. Parking is easy to find, though be prepared for a 30-minute wait, which is a testament to its popularity. This establishment caters to adults, as there are no provisions for children or highchairs. I will be back!

Amazing find! The smaller company to The Black Whale just next door, this clam bar features the perfect seafood mix and even a burger or chicken fingers for those who don’t partake. The clam chowder – outstanding! Scallop plate & scallop roll were delicious. How could they not be as when you’re dining you’re surrounded by fishing boats…so fun!

What a great experience. I’m sure it helped that it was a beautiful day out and they have great, clean outdoor seating. Easy parking too.

First, everyone here is super friendly, and attentive from the moment you walk over. I had some questions so I could navigate a gluten allergy. Not going to lie, I was skeptical because a clam shack is unlikely to be gluten friendly. But guess what? You can totally make it work! The server offered lobster on a bed of arugula and it was delicious! Food was fresh and no over seasoned. The rest of the family had chowder and clam cakes and all was eaten gladly.

The prices are not cheap. But you get what you pay for. Several servers checked in with me after we were given our food. They also have various adult beverages available.

If you’re traveling in the area, this is a great spot to stop by. (There’s Acushnet Creamery in the same parking lot.) Whale’s Tail is family friendly and also great for seniors. It’s mobility friendly. I’m also willing to bet that this establishment is LGBTQ friendly. Just the vibe I got. All are welcome.

Stop by. I plan to be back!

Great spot right on the water! Although my food was great, I ordered the poke bowl and came out to actually just a tuna appetizer with tortilla chips- not even the won ton chips they say it comes with. Slightly disappointing but I still enjoyed it.

Stopped here for a casual, outdoor dining experience. The food was delicious. We had the clam strip roll, the clam strip basket, lobster roll, scallop basket, chicken strips, and clam cakes. Friendly and prompt service.

Serious Question Here: Is a Lobster Roll supposed to be chewy? I rarely eat Lobster and I have never experienced such a tender and flavorless lobster before. Fries and roll for the lobster were amazing but the Lobster was like rubber. I hate to say this, but I’ve had better Lobster at a Red Lobster in Cincinnati…

I went here today with my mom and there was a mistake of the order not being put through. After informing the server of the mistake the manager who I unfortunately did not get the name of gave us a full refund and a gift card back. They were apologetic and completely went above beyond for a simple mistake. I recommend everyone coming here to try the place the food is amazing, service incredible and it was so unbelievably kind to have had them respond the way they did to an understandable mistake. I am the owner of Captain Bonney’s Creamery in Rochester and really appreciate when businesses are able to give good service and fix mistakes the way they did I hope when an issue happens at my place that my customers are treated the same way they treated us 10 out 10 we will be back. Thank you!

Life is short F……it up ! Family, Flavor, Friends.

Great lil place in the docks. We started w the clam chowder- very savory and flavorful must get. Next fisherman’s plater got the beer batter ver. Pretty standard make sure to ask for the spicy tangy sauce. Next was the carprise chicken sandwich then the lobster roll – they serve it cold or hot. We opted for cold. The roll was buttered and savory and has a good texture. The portion was lil small other wise 5

Very nice place right in the New Bedford harbor. Self service, low key, nice ambience. The lobster roll with fries was pretty good. Yes, it’s expensive but nobody said lobster is cheap. Tip: Try their house-made lemonade, with lavender if that’s available.
