Must-orders: the shrimp cocktail with horseradish and tomato, tuna ceviche, and the steak (phenomenal). Truffle mashed potatoes and spinach were also absolute standouts.
Our server Greg was thee best!!
We had to wait past our reservation time (understandable for a busy Saturday), and it took a while to connect with our waiter. We ordered a bottle of wine and were brought one from a completely different decade than what we selected, and this was not pointed out to us — we had to notice the discrepancy ourselves. For context, we ordered a 2014 Barolo and were brought a 2022. We ultimately chose a different bottle instead, which was not a great start to the evening.
For appetizers, we ordered the “High Ridge Little Gem Caesar Salad,” which contained no gem lettuce and tasted like a basic bagged romaine salad. The “Ahi Tuna Ceviche” was not a ceviche at all, but an extremely spicy tuna tartare. We were confused why both dishes were so different from their menu descriptions.
However, the “Tagliatelle Cacio e Pepe” was the most disappointing dish of the night — the pasta sat in a heavy, gravy-like sauce and the guanciale was completely uncooked rather than crisped and rendered. The dish was inedible. Our waiter apologized, and one of the owners kindly offered to replace it, but after three of our four dishes were poor, we declined.
As a gesture, we were brought dessert, but the chocolate mousse was frozen solid and impossible to eat with our utensils, which only added to the frustration.
Overall, given the pricing and atmosphere, the experience fell far short of expectations. Sadly, we won’t be returning or recommending.
Finally we had the beef Wellington (which neither of us would normally go for) and it was definitely an elevated version of the classic recipe complete with just a touch of Foie Gras and a very light truffle sauce.
The wait staff and management were all friendly and around when you needed them and we felt taken care of. Overall this was an incredible experience and even as a NYC local with plenty of great local options,, we’re looking forward to making the journey back to the Waveny.
From hearty soups and fresh sushi to handcrafted cocktails and prime-aged steaks and not to mention, great service!
This restaurant seems to have it all! Love the Filet and spicy tuna roll!
