This is a place where you have to order at the counter and pay, then sit down. I wish I would have known or realized that before going there so I could have perused the menu on the internet before going or just skipped this place all together. That is my absolute least favorite restaurant set up. You can’t actually take your time and look at the menu, you have someone looking at you, wanting you to hurry up and order. I like my food experiences without pressure or anxiety. And God forbid if there’s a line. Even more pressure. All that aside, the food was okay. Not great but not bad. I had the pulled pork sandwich with fried okra and my husband had the chicken plate. His chicken wasn’t dry rubbed, it was plastered and coated in dry rub. He couldn’t eat the skin because it had so much dry rub on it, it killed the texture. My pulled pork had a good flavor. The okra was good. The sweet tea was delicious. Best thing I had there. The food came out quickly. The restaurant itself is clean. Had kind of a country charm. The first booth we sat in the seat was broken. It flipped forward. We moved a booth over. My husband said they were renovating the bathroom. At the drink station I kept getting whiffs of sewage but maybe that was because the bathroom being worked on and not a thing that is usual. The drink station is right up the hall from the bathroom. Overall, this is not the place for us. I see that there are lots of good reviews so maybe we just had a bad experience or ordered the wrong thing. Either way, I doubt we’ll be back. It looks like they were doing some sort of food drive and that’s amazing of them.

My family’s first time coming. An we will DEFINITELY be back. The service was AMAZING, and the food was right there with the service. The owner came over and talked with us as well. The fact that they are playing CHRISTAN music made our experience so much better! If I could give more than 5 stars, I definitely would

I was working on a job up the street and found this place on Google, haven’t had barbecue in a while so thought I’d give it a try. I ordered the vortex, cause you have to try the dish named after the establishment. So here’s how it was, the bread was AMAZING, soft and chewy, buttered and grilled perfectly. The filling was DELICIOUS, lots of meat and onions, the barbecue sauce was flavorful, the meat was tender and juicy. Was a great lunch, which can be hard to find now days. And customer service was friendly and very helpful.

First off, for those that don’t know why a BBQ place is called The Vortex, it’s because the owners are storm chasers, and the entire menu is Tornado/Storm Themed. And, you should probably like and follow their socials, not just for the food, but also because their storm chaser side shows up with alerts, info, and even storm prep classes, so it’s a TWO FER. Or maybe a EF-TWO fer…

They also have a 4.9 Google rating from 70 reviews…solidly outranking several places that have made ‘Best of’ lists and brackets, and placing them well within the Top 100 Oklahoma BBQ Places You Must Try Before You Die (from our TOP 1000 list). Maybe it’s their relative newness compared to other, established BBQ joints as to why they aren’t as well known–but there is definitely something in the smokers out here in the EOC…

Since I hadn’t had any of the EF burgers AND I wanted to try the brisket, I decided on the obvious choice for lunch — The Debris Ball. This is a huge, hand formed MOAB topped with sliced brisket, cheese, and onion strings, served on a large buttered and toasted bun. It’s an $18 burger…for a reason. I’m not sure how much meat was on it, but it requires two people to haul the tray to the table. Seriously, there was a mound of meat on this thing! Could easily be two meals, it’s that big.

The burger was served a nice medium, and while I prefer mine on the medium rare side, it was juicy and delicious. The brisket was moist and tender, with really good flavor — I was pleasantly surprised since my first brisket experience wasn’t as enjoyable. (I chalked it up to just opened hiccups and trying to get all the things figured out, and as such didn’t hold it against them–and definitely didn’t blast them on the socials 🙂 )

The fried onions and the sauce make for a great combo and is everything a burger that eats like a meal should be!

They offer a variety of sides, but I went for the sidewinder fries, which are a nice take on fried potato side dishes, and there were plenty of them, thin, crispy and delicious.

What is also great about The Vortex is they have lunch specials ($12 meat, side and drink combo), a kids eat free night (Thursday), various meat coma platters, and they do catering as well.

So the next time you’re hungry for a burger or BBQ and you just watched Twisters, head over to The Vortex in Spencer/Nicoma Park/Midwest City/The EOC and settle in for a flavor storm that will rain down deliciousness (see what I did there 🙂 )

Side note: the other picture is of their $12 chopped brisket sandwich lunch special that #theunkownguy had. As you can see, there was a mound of meat piled on that sandwich as well. And it must have been good, because he hardly said a word as he inhaled it. 🙂

Been here a few times now. The BBQ is great. We have tried the smoked sausage, wonderful flavor. The jalapeno cheese sausage, very mild more cheese than pepper. The hot links were good nothing special but smoked to perfection.

The pulled pork and brisket had us gob smacked. The brisket was juicy smoky and very good. The pulled pork was not quite a juicy but was still super tender.

The sauces were hot and mild. Mix yourself for medium. These are thick sauces. Not vinager based, kind of stress meeting kc style. Both were good I prefer the hot.

Burgers, they were a little overcooked by the way I like them. Still had a great taste.

To the sides. We tried the Mac and cheese, fries, slaw and beans. The Mac n cheese was really good. The slaw was pretty good, my friends liked it more than I did. The beans were disappointing, not much flavor compared to the rest of the menu.

The fries are unique in my experience. These are like a cross between a wedge a ruffles chip with a hint of a curly fry thrown in. They have both a thick potato that is soft and a crispy edge. We all loved these and have become our standard go to side.

The food is good. I really like their chopped brisket sandwich. I prefer the hot BBQ sauce with my order. I selected coleslaw for my side and added a side of French fries. We are repeat customers. I suggest you try it.

I had one of their employees at my business telling me about this new spot I needed to check out. I went on my lunch break and got the ef-5 burger with sidewinder fries. It was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were good. Was very filling. The prices are a little higher but really the quality and portions of the food are worth the little extra. Better quality and portions than your national chains. The guy who took my order was friendly and kind and promised me I’d be back, can’t say he was lying.

My husband and I have been in Oklahoma for 4 years. We’ve been trying to find a good BBQ place and we finally found one after 4 years. The BBQ was delicious, the synod was out of this world. If I could have given 10 stars I would have. We will see you again soon. Yummy

Service was incredible and the food was even better! The chef even came out and checked on us shortly after our food was served. The fried okra was phenomenal and the homemade rice krispy treats were EXCELLENT! Absolutely no complaints!
