Stopped by for lunch on 4th of July because it was one of the few places open.

I’ll start by saying that I always try to patronize locally owned establishments, and I’ll also say that I really wanted to love this place, but I am obligated to provide honesty about my experience. The place was about 75% full, which I thought was a pretty good sign! The person who took my order was low energy and in no hurry. I asked for the chicken sandwich without onions, but she said that they were pre-made (not made to order) and that I could scrape them off. I also ordered the fruit, but she said they were out.

Really cute place. Tucked away and it’s furnished nicely. There are plenty of places to sit and a bunch of outlets to use if you need it. They have an outdoor patio that’s dog friendly. There are a few bookshelves of books to borrow if you’re into that too and local artwork to purchase. The Problem lie in the food and service. Unfortunately places like this overcharge for mediocre food and this cafe is no different. I got a chicken sandwich with a side of chips i probably could have made it better at home. Service is also a bit slow so I probably wouldn’t stop by if you’re in a rush. Nice compromise is they have a pretty decent selection of things from local vendors with some snacks, bars, pastries, bread etc. they have premade drinks too like sparkling water, ice tea, and some local cold pressed drinks. Honestly it’s a really cute vibe but I’d avoid the food they make and stick with premade stuff and coffee or tea.

The place looks nice and cleaned. We went in a monday afternoon around 4pm and tried to order a juice, and they said they stopped making juices for the day.. ordered a couple of coffees and waited over 15 min, even though there were only 2 costumers in the store that had their drinks already.

After our hotel (The Berkeley) failed to provide even a minimal breakfast, we ended up down the street at the Urban Farmhouse. Small place with pretty limited breakfast offerings. Food took a LONG time and the girls behind the counter had zero personality. Once we got our food, it was pretty good but overall I can’t recommend the place. Plus, the men’s room was out of order.

Have it a negative review because, despite lovely huge windows, and an attractive space, the coffee was watery (after I requested a double shot) and the pastries were packaged and not very good. I hesitated before ordering the pastries, which were pre-wrapped, but the server said they were “fresh.” Fresh from the factory, maybe. With these prices, Urban Farmhouse should and can do a lot better than being a tourist trap.

We happened upon this gem of a restaurant by searching the Bring Fido app. They allow dogs inside the restaurant as long as they are well behaved. They have gluten free bread that’s local, for those of us with Celiac. They source what they can locally, which was an awesome find.

Badly understaffed, so the wait time can vary and sometimes orders get missed, which is understandable, because again, very badly understaffed. I’m sure as soon as this place hires enough people they’ll be good to go.
