We went for an early (around 3pm) Valentine’s Day dinner and it was very busy, which was expected. We had to wait 20 to 25 minutes for a table. The bread and butter was so good. I would have been happy with that and wedding soup! I chose Caprese pizza which was so good, the Perfect amount of cheese and balsamic. My husband got the steak with feta which was cooked exactly to his liking. Always a good meal from the Union grill!

Amazing food and lovely service. The location could probably use an update, since the establishment has been around a long time. I loved everything I ate there, however. Quintessential Italian style cooking and classic cocktails. Maybe the old world vibe helps to enhance the authenticity of the experience.

This is a super cool historic place in Washington, PA. I liked my chicken Marsala so much I was eating the sauce with a spoon! My boyfriend loved his stuffed New Yorker steak. They have a large food and cocktail menu. I had the French martini and loved it!! Would go back for sure.

The service was the worse. I had the worse waitress; Chantel was very rude and disrespectful. I ordered a salad. Chantel recommended the bacon dressing. The menu does not show any extra price for the dressings. It says choose any of these dressings for your salad. When my bill came, Chantel tried to charge me an additional fee. I asked her about this extra charge and she told me that it was for the bacon dressing. I was livid, because Chantel recommended this particular dressing to me, but never informed me of any upcharge, besides the menu does not display any upcharge.
Chantel’s friendly demeanor became very nasty and disrespectful, when I asked to speak with the manager. I was told that he was not present. Therefore, I asked Chantel to take this off my bill and she ignored me for a very long time. She did not even acknowledge my request. Later, Chantel returned and rudely slammed my check down on my table, and walked off so fast, before I could give her my credit card. Then she never returned for a long time; therefore, I go to the bar to pay, and the bar-lady tells me that I must pay my waitress. This rude waitress yells out from a distance to the bar-lady, with an attitude “I told her that I would be back.” Yet, she never said a word, she just rudely slammed my check down & took off.
This behavior is unacceptable, especially since Chantel tried to upcharge me. DO NOT get an attitude with the customer, because you tried to SCAM the customer and got CAUGHT doing so, and had to take FRAUDULENT UPCHARGE off the customer’s bill. The customer is right to make this request and correction when this dressing is not a chargeable item on the menu. The manager needs to fire this waitress, because she lacks courteous Customer Service skills. The name of this waitress is Chantel, who becomes very rude and nasty when she is corrected. I will never return.

Atmosphere- 5 stars- located in downtown Washington PA this Italian style restaurant is below street level. You enter the building by going down a set of steps. Reminds me of the entrance of the famous television show – Cheers. As you enter you see a full bar to your right and to your left a seating area as well as further ahead as you’re waiting to be seated. It is a cozy environment that feels like a local spot and is decorated nicely with old photo memories of the past. Love the rustic brick wall that was in our dining area. I don’t believe there are any windows since you’re in the lower level of the building however it doesn’t feel dark or uninviting. Everything was really clean and there was plenty of seating- both tables and booths or seating at the bar. I also noticed a back room which was probably used for private events or overflow seating.
Service- 5 stars- our waitress was Bridgette and she was on the ball! We had a table that was a little rocky but she noticed it right away and fixed it. She gave us her advice when asked about what was good and she didn’t steer us wrong- I had one of the best sandwiches I had ever had. She was very attentive and made sure our drinks stayed full and that we had everything we needed. Super friendly. I hope this restaurant knows what a good employee they have.
Food- 5 stars- we had been here before however it had been awhile and our last visit was a little disappointing but I accounted that for being rusty after reopening due to the COVID episode. This time was amazing!!! Everything was delicious. Starting with the Wedding soup- perfectly made with tender meatballs and a savory broth. I got the Roberta sandwich- which was made with tender slices of roast beef, cheese, Cole slaw, fresh fries and thousand island dressing all on Italian grilled bread- amazing!!! We also got Cheese Ravioli made with imported pasta and you could definitely tell the difference from the store boxed pasta. Sauce was very good and we got a side of Meatballs- very large Meatballs at that and they were awesome! Just can’t say enough about our experience here.
If you look at my past reviews you will see that five stars reviews come far and few between so when I give a place five stars it must be very good!!

Great spot. Started with Fried Smelts. Then we had the Roberta sandwich and the grilled chicken salad.

Union Grill is a cornerstone of this town! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by that cool ‘underground mob vibe’ and the welcoming staff. It’s a fantastic Italian spot with a great bar area that adds to the whole experience. We ordered a little bit of everything, and I’ve been coming here for years because it’s always a great experience. I always recommend this place to anyone visiting Washington – it’s definitely worth the stop. It’s conveniently located just off the interstate, so it’s easy to swing by if you’re traveling. Parking is convenient with plenty of options available, including the newspaper building lot in the evening and street parking nearby.

We stopped at the Union Grill and enjoyed a delicious dinner while admiring the nostalgic charm of the restaurant’s decor. The dining room walls showcase an impressive collection of historical photographs and art from Washington County. It is easy to see why this restaurant, which opened in 1967, has stood the test of time.
