This place is worth the drive & fun to find them. They go above and beyond to make sure their customers are treated the best. The food is so amazing. Bread baked fresh daily, their subs are huge, deep fried tacos & taco salads are addicting, the Mac & cheese with the topping are amazing. I could go on and on, but go try it out yourself. While you are setting there eating you get to enjoy fresh air, see some wild life. Very relaxing place to enjoy a meal & strangers chat with one another like old time friends.
This family is such a blessing to so many.
If you have not been to The Trail Kitchen, you need to go… ❤️

Saw this place on Facebook and the food looked good. While on a trip to the area decided to adventure out to find it. It did not disappoint! Well worth the 4 hour drive. The portions are huge, and those homemade potato chips are to die for! From now on, any time we are within a couple hours The Trail Kitchen will be a mandatory stop! Good job Marine!

Absolutely wonderful all around! The staff here were the nicest people. They spoke to you like they were happy to see you and smiled. They even left up a canopy flap for us when it rained so we could enjoy it. Now on to the food. These subs huge and delicious! You must be hungry or you’re going home with leftovers. The fresh chips with the homemade chipotle ranch! I could drink that sauce. Cookies are wonderful. The macaroni is wonderful. It’s all wonderful! Clean and spacious. The pay system is as listed in other reviews that you are handed an envelope and you have 3 choices. See my photo. It’s a nice beautiful drive out here and I suggest you have 4WD or a utility vehicle. The gravel road is a slightly rough and you go down a dirt driveway with a tight turn but there is a wide spot to help you. Check their Facebook as they do sell out at times. Weekends I hear are busier. We had no crowd on a Friday. I love the concept of this families restaurant and pray it serves the area filling bellies for many years. I hope they are forever blessed to keep this family owned place going without worry. Thank you for a wonderful experience and meal! We will be back soon and bring friends!

Unbelievable service, the food was fit for a king and a half sub would feed 2 people. Inside and out was remarkably welcoming, fireplaces throughout and this restaurant is in the middle of nowhere, clean and music throughout, wife and I slow danced o/s. What a blessing to be able to eat and know what ever I give for the price of my food I’m able to pay it forward to someone less fortunate. Pay what you think the food is worth. I hope you guys get more out of state visitors like us from Raleigh NC.

One of the very best places you could ever go to. The whole basis behind this restaurant is amazing. Their food is always delicious. Go early the day you decide on. They are so busy on some days that they can sell out. Check FB for updates on the time they will be open until. Also, see how their food is “priced”. Please pay extra if you can afford to do so as they help so many others that can’t afford their meal. You can take any vehicle to get there, but I suggest a side x side, truck, or SUV. Don’t miss out on this place. It is worth every minute of travel and wait time.

If you’re not sure if you want to come here don’t think twice!! The sub was amazing and humongous and the Mac and cheese bowl was also very big and so tasty!! The fried taco was also delicious according to a friend. The service was amazing! All together I would have given them 10 stars if I could!!

I absolutely love this place! The owners and employees are the nicest people. The restaurant and kitchen is extremely clean. The food is so delicious and the portions are ginormous! It takes a little while to get there but it’s a fun little adventure. If you have a low profile vehicle I don’t recommend driving it though.

Definitely try this place out! You won’t regret it!

Extremely friendly environment, huge tasty sub sandwiches and a monstrous deep fried taco.
Their manner of pricing is unique, it’s truly great seeing something like this work – paying what you can/will/want to help others.
The roads coming in aren’t the best, but I’ve seen plenty worse in WV. This is definitely a place worth checking out.

A 30 minute drive from Charleston, the Trail Kitchen is a trip we’ve been looking forward to for a long time! I had first heard about it on their last day of the season in 2021. 2022 they didn’t open for personal reasons, so we were excited to hear about the opening this year!

We went for a late lunch, and we were not disappointed! The portions were large, messy, and so incredibly delicious! While people with better manners than I might have gone for a fork, I made do with my hands and a stack of napkins! We both got the deep fried tacos, which were literally as big as our heads. Filled with meat, cheese, banana peppers, jalapeños, tomato, onion and shredded lettuce, these things were massive!

We chatted with the owners, and if we weren’t sold on the place before, their enthusiasm, personality and love of the people of WV would have done it! They were gearing up for the busy weekend ahead of travelers and trail riders, and we look forward to returning! The massive deck is covered for shade and against random rainstorms—but they also have an absolutely beautiful indoor dining area that is wonderfully decorated and air conditioned!

They don’t have prices on the menu—but there are a few choices you have to pay: pay what you think the meal was worth, pay what you can afford, or pay for someone else who might not be able to afford it. The owner told us that they want to offer delicious food to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

This is the type of kindness that really feeds us!

Follow them on Facebook and Tiktok! Spread the word! Go out and have an amazing meal in the quiet of the mountains!! And most importantly—be kind to each other! ✌ ❤️

This was recommended by a coworker, and it was fantastic. The fam and I went on a day trip and just exploring we had an amazing time. Well we stopped here for lunch. Yes its out of the way and my low riding Jetta was definitely not liking it….make sure your vehicle sits higher. But it was remote and we were just out for a good experience with eachother. Well my daughters ordered the birdie and buffalo chicken mac bowels, my husvand had the sloppy mac and I had the chicken bacon mac bowels. We all got the Monster size. We had lunch and supper, it was huge. Fantastic service and just felt like down home comfort food with family and friends. So worth the drive and will be back to try the sandwiches next time.❤️
