Takeaway shop at the front with restaurant to the back downstairs and upstairs.
Friendly, helpful, and efficient staff.
Good facilities and accessible. During my visit, a range of people were comfortably using the restaurant, including persons in wheelchairs.
Clean and tidy, pay at the counter as you leave cash or card.
Good menu options, including Steve Wilson Pies and Cumberland Sausage, of which I eat far too many already! So I opted for the small fish and chips, mushy peas, and a pot of tea.
These were by far the best fish and chips I’ve had in Cumbria, so I’ll be going again.

Lunch at The Fryery was a great experience (January 26th 2022).

A really nice chippy! Came to Carlisle for the day and saw the offer of scampi and chips for £5.25, can’t go wrong with that! My parents got that and I got my usual of battered sausage and chips. The customer service was great. Had to wait some time for our food but I wasn’t too fussed as you have to be patient in times of the pandemic. Would definitely come again if I visit Carlisle again ☺️

This is both a fish and chip takeaway at front of shop, and also a restaurant downstairs at the back of shop, and also upstairs.
In my estermation, downstairs should be reserved for the elderly and the disabled, and more space between tables to cater for this.
This is the type of establishment where you would get alot of regulars, so this sort of thing would be much appreciated.
Prices do seem to be on target, YES! to some they may appear slightly high.
But in today’s climate of food inflation NOT
abating, then it is to be expected.
Also the National Insurance hike doesn’t help keep prices down.
So to be fair i think the prices are spot on.
Some meals are in fact good value
The menu is quite extensive.
The food was hot when served, and the establishment did not skim on the portion size.
Service was right to your table as soon as you sat down.
There was a notice on the wall that dealt with allergies, but the staff DID NOT make it a point to ask if any of the customers they were serving had any problems.

When we go to Carlisle, we only eat at The Fryery because the food has always been excellent. however, this day we went it appears there were a lot of very small chips that needed to be disposed of and they appeared on my plate. I don’t mind a few small ones it is expected, but I must have got the majority of everyone else’s that lunch time, that is why I left them on my plate Still give it four stars, would have been five as usual but for the vast amount of small chips
