The real standout was our server, Jennifer, who was warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The food was tasty, the vibe was relaxed, and the view alone makes it a spot worth discovering. Definitely deserves more love than it gets!
The interior is very spacious and inviting with the back wall being pretty much all windows – with a scenic view looking down on Clinton’s beautiful harbor area. There is outdoor seating on a large patio, indoor seating in several dining areas, and more seating in a spacious bar area the appears to host karaoke and other events that the small stage can accommodate.
While the menu has the standard Chinese-Americanized food options (think general Tsao Chicken or pot stickers), it also boasts many traditional/authentic Chinese options. Plus, the owner (Jennifer) is so accommodating and willing to have her kitchen make dishes that aren’t on the menu, if they have the ingredients the specific dishes require. My husband and I were such fans of the food that we came back another two times after our first lunch experience. Additionally, they have many specialty non alcoholic drink options like iced matcha green tea latte or regular & flavored iced bubble tea beverages…. In addition to a full bar with standard alcoholic offerings. The pictures of our food are from all three of our dining experiences here. I would definitely recommend this place with confidence and will most assuredly be back every time I’m in the area on any future vacation to the San Juan Islands.
In this case I hope it comes across more as a way for ownership and staff to improve the customer experience.
Basically at the root of restaurant operations customer satisfaction really should be number one priority. Without customers a business may not survive.
I would like to start out this review by saying the young man who served my friend and I was very polite and the establishment itself was very clean, although it appears that they struggle with an identity. Are they a restaurant? Are they a lounge? Or are they a retail shop?
My friend and I decided to have breakfast here on a Sunday morning and we called beforehand to verify they were actually open for breakfast hours and contrary to the website information on Google for The Top Restaurant and Lounge as well as Hong Kong Gardens the opening hours for the weekend we’re inaccurate, stating an opening time of 11:00 a.m. when they actually were opened at 9:00 a.m.
When we were seated we were automatically given lunch and dinner menus and had to specifically ask for breakfast menus. The breakfast menu really did not show the array of breakfast items as posted on the website. The table itself lacked any silverware or napkins or condiments such as sugar ,ketchup or hot sauce or Jam.
The server although very young and I could tell he was trying his best, He really lacked proper server training. We were not offered coffee when we sat down. We had to ask. We also had to ask for silverware. After a brief period of time we decided on our breakfast order. We were not served our meals at similar times. I ordered scrambled eggs and my friend ordered an omelette. I was almost done with my meal by the time my friends meal came. This establishment may not have a toaster or technical difficulties but my English muffin was not toasted. My friend’s meal was supposed to be an omelette and it sort of looked like a Asian style omelette that was served as a round shaped object instead of an American omelette which would have been folded in half. She did not receive potatoes as indicated on the menu and only received one slice of untasted bread. Technically speaking my friend’s meal wasn’t delivered to our table in a timely manner or together when my neal came, she actually had to go up and ask someone at the front where her meal was. Then at that point it was delivered. It looked like the server was playing on his phone and snacking instead of attending to guests. Eventually he did come back to check on us and refill my coffee and did bring the check. The food wasn’t necessarily terrible but at the same time it wasn’t anything stellar. We certainly wish that the food timing would have been faster and wish that my friend and I would have received our meals at the same time . The restaurant was very empty I’m thinking this is due to lack of signage advertising that they are serving breakfast and perhaps the website information that is inaccurate about weekend times. I am encouraged that this restaurant has evolved from the previous ownership and I certainly hope in the future they gain some experience in customer service/ satisfaction. All I can say as a customer is that I believe customer service should be number one and meal accuracy and presentation should be number two. And number three should be gratitude toward customers for choosing their establishment. This means when I pay my check I expect my server to say thank you come again.
Again this isn’t intended to complain about a struggling small local business. I hope this can be viewed constructively as a way of working toward Improvement.
