Lauren – you are a rock star!!

We had a fabulous dinner, from start to finish. We were greeted with smiles and sat immediatley. We arrived at sunset so we missed what we are certain would have been a spectacular view. (Already planning our next dinner there!)

We started with the suggested dishes from Lauren: house made focaccia bread with their house made maple butter, along with roasted garlic and ricotta spread. FABULOUS!! The maple butter was not overly sweet, just perfect. The roasted garlic and ricotta were the absolute best pairing with the soft, delicious focaccia bread! I also followed Laurens recommendation and had the lobster corn chowder. So good! The chunks of fresh lobster, creamy corn and potatoes – all blended so nicely. I could have had this and the bread for a meal. But I’m glad I didn’t stop there! The scallops were perfection!

My husband had a lovely glass of Belvenie 12 Scotch, then the mussels and said the sauce with them was excellent. He had the pork chop and a side of root veggies ( rutabaga, turnip, carrot, turmeric herb oil)
for his meal. All were cooked beautifully and tasted terrific…and he’s quite picky being the chef he is.

To end, he had the tiramisu cheesecake…which he said was a great blend of the two dishes. So good!

The little things that Lauren and the other staff did just went above and beyond to make our visit perfect. Always a full glass of water (and she kept the ice glass I asked for full the entire time – even when I wasn’t looking!), a lovely caraff of water, two spoons for the dessert (even though I couldn’t have eaten another bite!). The staff around her cleared the table between courses, kept the water full and were just pleasant…including a check-in from the manager!

We are already looking forward to coming back, not just for dinner, but also to stay
for a night or two to soak up the beautiful Maine coastline.

Thanks so much, Tiller!!

During our stay at the Cliff House, we dined here twice for dinner. The wait staff was excellent on both occasions—attentive, friendly, and consistent. In fact, the service throughout the hotel was impressive, especially considering we visited during the off-season in November.

Unfortunately, the food did not match the quality of the service. The French soups were excellent and one of the highlights of the menu, as was the focaccia bread appetizer. The braised short rib was another bright spot—flavorful, though on the smaller side.

Other dishes were less successful. The mushroom rigatoni was average; not bad, but nothing memorable. The Caesar salad was a miss—served as an uncut half head of lettuce, which made it awkward and unappealing. I wouldn’t recommend ordering it.

The pork chop was disappointing as well, consisting mostly of fat and gristle, and not something I’d choose again. The seared scallops were also poorly executed: over-seared on one side, undercooked and rubbery on the other, resulting in an unpleasant texture.

Overall, the exceptional service couldn’t quite make up for the inconsistent and often underwhelming food.

Celebratory brunch! Mid week, late fall. Quiet for brunch. Awesome views. Classically subdued nautical themed decor. Food is plated beautifully (esp the deconstructed Caesar salad). Service was amazing (but it was relatively empty). The food was good. We had root veg Benedict, short rib beef hash and the short rib beef fusilli. Desserts are portioned to share. Nov 2025.

Great view, but breakfast menu does not do a good job describing what you are going to get. The açaí bowl is melted and mixed with yogurt. The French toast is not stuffed with dulce, simply has a few dollops on the plate which is not enough to prevent the toast from being quite dry. Orange juice seems pressed but was sour. Great server. I’d go back but with better expectations.

This was our first night at the Cliff House, and unfortunately the experience at The Tiller was disappointing. We walked in a little before 8 PM hoping to sit at the bar since dinner was fully committed, which we completely understood. When a couple got up, we asked the bartender if we could take the additional chair for our party of two. His response was, “Sure, if it fits,” (see photo below).

We then asked the host if he could help us move the chair, since it seemed like seating was being left for guests to figure out on their own. Instead of assisting, he just watched as we struggled to reposition the chair ourselves to make it “fit” at the bar.

On top of the service issues, the food was disappointing as well. The focaccia bread came out cold, and so did the scallops dish. For a resort of this caliber, we expected a much better experience.

Overall, a very underwhelming first night.

This is the story of two locals who take a flyer at a new restaurant on Saturday night of Labor Day weekend. Where did we go? The Tidemark Bar at the Cliff Hotel in Cape Neddick, Maine. The place was jumping and basically SRO. You’d expect hiccups on such a busy night—but we didn’t experience a single one. Food was beautifully prepared and presented. And the wait staff—gracious and attentive (Hector & Jana specifically)! We split a beet salad. Excellent. I had the fish and truffle fries, also excellent. My dinner partner had the pork panini which was on par with everything else. The piece de resistance—a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich to beat the band. Bravo all!

What an experience! From the incredible views to the delicious food presented, to the friendly and knowledgeable staff, this was more an experience than just a meal. Every dish was beautiful presented and prepared in a way footlights the fresh high quality ingredients. I highly recommend sitting at the terrace for your meal on a nice night especially for a special occasion.

The view is INCREDIBLE!! Came here on our honeymoon and just went back for dinner on our 5 year anniversary. The food was 10/10 this time, and they always celebrate big occasions with you with a free celebratory dessert! Expensive but worth it for a treat every once in a while. Love being able to get a drink and look at the ocean before dinner and then walk out on the rocks after dinner for sunset.

Came here for a birthday/new years eve lunch because it’s about halfway between the people attending. Location is absolutely stunning. As I mentioned, we came here for a birthday. I asked the front desk if I could bring a cake in, and was told no problem, but there would be a cake cutting fee (which I expected), and no candles (fine, we’ll all live). I thought I’d have time to walk the cake to the host before the birthday girl arrived but she was early, so I asked the hotel front desk to help sneak it down as I didnt want to ruin the surprise. Immediately upon being seated, I was loudly asked, at the table in front of the group “what do you want us to do with the cake?”. I’d have expected a little discretion or attempt at being sneaky, the surprise is gone but we’re all adults. I say we’d love to have it served for dessert, after lunch (I want to input a ‘duh?’ Here because I feel like its standard operating procedure, but I don’t want to be rude, obviously they are not very experienced in the service industry here. I also want to mention that we had friendly banter with both the host who seated us and the waiter about celebrating a birthday, and whos birthday it was. In addition, the birthday woman had multiple gifts and flowers in dront of her. Hard to miss).
We all order, the waiter is patient and friendly with our children, our food comes out in a timely manner. I mentioned food allergies, it did appear our dishes were changed to accommodate but not much mention was made when they were served, which I find mildly concerning.
Our food: kids meals were fine, the gluten free chicken fingers were especially good. I had a disappointing eggs Benedict. The yolks were fully cooked through, and the hollandaise was sparse and cold. My husband said his meal was ‘fine’.
Now the cake time. I thought it had already been sufficiently fumbled but I was impressed with how far we could fall. The cake was brought out, still in the container, and placed unceremoniously on the side of the table. Dude. Respectfully, I thought this was supposed to be a nice restaurant in a nice hotel? I was pretty clear after the surprise was given away that we were having the cake after our meal. Its not like I asked for a song and dance but plates and utensils might have been nice, maybe take it out of the Tupperware and present it to the birthday girl?
In summary, I had higher expectations for service given the location and the prices, our waiter was lovely and friendly but it was clear to me the staff has never received training in service besides how to take an order and drop it on the table. I certainly wouldn’t say my experience was ruined, but I was *very* surprised at the lack of attention to detail.

I’d probably consider returning for drinks, because the location is so gorgeous, but overall I was let down by the experience.

Spectacular Views: This is arguably the restaurant’s biggest draw. A wall of windows ensures nearly every table has an uninterrupted view of the ocean, from dramatic sunrises to romantic sunsets.
Upscale yet Inviting: The decor combines contemporary design with charming rustic elements, creating an elegant and bright dining space.
