I love visiting this bar with friends, family, and colleagues. The atmosphere is the best in town, and service is usually excellent, with conversational, polite, and attentive bartenders.
However, for a high-end venue attached to a luxury hotel, I expect consistently outstanding hospitality. A few staff members occasionally fall short, particularly in attitude, conversation, and checking in on guests: specifically an older woman, a younger light-haired man, and a younger brunette woman.
This has led me to visit less often. When I shared this feedback with management, it was dismissed with assurances that everyone is treated friendly. Yet despite our group always arriving in business attire with proper manners and hygiene, these individuals sometimes make us feel unwelcome.
I notice other local spots (even more casual ones like Walk-On’s, Triple’s, Roar, Loose Change, The Foundry, TD’s, Study Hall, and places in Greenville) maintain smiling, engaged staff who clearly enjoy their work. Not everyone is suited to hospitality, and high-standard venues typically address such issues promptly to maintain quality, perhaps by retraining or reassigning.
I’m confused and wonder if it’s something on our end, but we receive excellent treatment elsewhere (except Backstreets). I rarely leave detailed feedback like this, but I share it constructively, hoping it helps improve the business. I’d gladly update my review if service becomes consistently excellent.

Big shout out to Owen, the bartender at The Thomas. He was knowledgeable about their wine list. He also is a master at being a mixologist. Owen was able to make small talk while managing a busy cocktail bar. We would return to The Thomas because of the service Owen provided. Working as a Director of Customer Service, Owen’s qualities are hard to find. I pray his employee takes care of him well to keep him.

The staff here is horrible. Rude, unfriendly, and cold. The seem to be miserable and treat their customers that way too. Yikes!!! Sam is really a grumpy person.
