Came here with a group of 8, the service was friendly and fast. The food is amazing, simple, delicious and absolutely mouth watering. Ended up coming back the next day because we wanted to try more of their food. If you’re hungry, look no further, this place hits the spot!

We just love this place.
We started with HUMMUS, and was fenomenal.
I tried this time the fry fish, and it was huge and tasteful. Chips were so good as well.
My wife tried TINGA TACOS, and that was not tinga. Tacos had a rare flavor other than Chipotle sauce witch is the main ingredient for TINGA, but they were good. No disappointment at all.
Drinks are always great.
My wife ordered SANGRIA, and ordered a couple drafts.
We will be definitely coming back during the summer.

I give it 3 starts due to their mission & being named after their shelter pup! I just didn’t care for the food. First impression, wasn’t sure where to go? No signage. I walk with a cane right now due to knee surgery & I could not walk to our table without removing my cane due to the tight space between tables. Server was polite & quick to table. She did get sat with another big table right next to us (which was too close for comfort). So it’s understandable she took a few moments to grab the ranch she forgot when bringing our apps. Cheese curds over done, cheese wasn’t very edible. Truffle fries good! However I was disappointed this large top got their food right as we did? We had ordered apps, drinks and then food as they got sat. Everything is al a cart so don’t expect sides with your $19 wrap or $15 burger- the sides cost $5-$10 a piece. This is definitely not normal for restaurants. Glad we asked. I read the menu and knew what I was getting into- but wasn’t about to go elsewhere. It was a Sat night and we waited to be sat. I was just hoping the money I was about to pay was going to be worth it. Deeply disappointed. My husband did not like his burger at all. The cheese wasn’t melted at all and it was blah- no seasoning. He ate small portion & he ate mine because I didn’t care for my steak wrap neither. He liked that more then the burger. My chili was ok/ nothing to be excited over. It was basically vegetarian- rarely any meat and no seasoning. We left with a $90 tab and won’t return due to the food.

️ The Stray Dog Bar & Grill: A Must-Stop in New Buffalo
We arrived at The Stray Dog Bar & Grill on a Friday evening and were greeted with a short 10-minute wait—just enough time to take in the lively, welcoming atmosphere. The lobby filled quickly after we arrived, a good sign that this spot is popular with both locals and visitors.
The drink menu was impressive, with a wide selection of beers and cocktails. I started the evening with an ice-cold beer that hit the spot after a day of exploring the area.
For an appetizer, we ordered the cheese curds. They were excellent—crispy on the outside, piping hot and gooey on the inside. A great way to kick off the meal.
I went with the Cubano sandwich for my main course. It was packed with juicy shredded pork, rich ham, melted cheese, and topped with pickles and mustard. The bread was toasted perfectly, adding a satisfying crunch to every bite.
On the side, I had the onion rings, which were clearly hand-battered and freshly fried. Crunchy, golden, and full of flavor.
The service was fantastic throughout our visit. Staff were attentive, friendly, and kept our drinks topped off with regular check-ins.
Whether you’re passing through New Buffalo or staying for the weekend, The Stray Dog is a great place to relax, enjoy a well-crafted meal, and soak in the local vibe.

The food was pretty good! The service was amazing. Our waitress was very attentive to us the entire time.
We got the nachos verde with tinga. The chicken was not tinga style Mexican chicken but the nachos were still delicious. I got the feta farm salad and it was so good, my friend got the fish and chips, and my brother got the tavern burger. Everything was very good!

I thought of this a summer tourist spot, boy was I wrong. Stopped in on the way to a relative and had a Reuben and Truffle Fries. The service was friendly, fast and helpful. The sandwich was very generous and able to split, the fries hot and flavorful. Just had pop as we were traveling but I saw wine, cocktails and more from the bar. The atmosphere is a star with lakefront view and cozy spaces.

I highly recommend visiting! The fish and chips were incredible, arguably the best we’ve had! Cody was exceptional bartender, he was warm and welcoming, very attentive, and personable. Overall, this restaurant doesn’t just serve food—it delivers an experience. We walked out already planning our next visit.

Decided to try The Stray Dog Bar & Grill while on vacation after it was recommended to us. The food was excellent, fresh, high quality, and delicious. Service was outstanding in every way, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming to our large family group with small children. The drinks were all lovely, and my wife especially enjoyed the espresso martini. They also provided coloring pages for the kids, which kept them happily occupied while we ordered. If you enjoy merch, there is a little shop across the street with t-shirts, hoodies, and more.
The only reason I am leaving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the rooftop is restricted to guests 21 and older. Unfortunately, that meant we could not enjoy the view while dining with our kids. If that had been accessible for families, this would have been a perfect 5 star experience.

Came here as a group of 5 one Saturday in the summer. All was well and good except for some kinks: the poke bowl we order seemed dry when we were digging into it. We asked the waitress if there was a sauce. She asked the kitchen, and was told that everything including sauce should have been given already. It wasn’t. You can see in the picture it was sauce-dry. Then a few minutes later we were given the sauce. Voila. Then later I wanted to have a rootbeer float but unsure whether they are able to provide a to-go container so we asked. She said yes the kitchen can put it in a cup. Great! But then when it came, it was a plastic cup of the ice cream shake and the bottle of the root beer, as you could see in the picture. It was a bit disappointing. I wanted to drink the float while walking. But with the way they delivered that, it’s not possible. Maybe they were too busy that day so not much thought was going on. I understand. Should you want something to improve on, you have one 😉
