On a recent Saturday night, we decided to stop by the Tavern/St. Clair in Pell City for a bite to eat, and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly staff that made us feel right at home. After a warm welcome, they quickly seated us and took our drink orders, setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening.
Our waiter was outstanding—his knowledge of the menu was impressive, and he went above and beyond to recommend some great food options. He also highlighted the chef’s specials, which added an extra layer of excitement to the meal.
When the food arrived, we were immediately impressed. It came out quickly, hot, and looking as great as it was advertised. Every dish was flavorful and tender, and the bursts of flavor with each bite were truly delightful. The freshness of the ingredients was evident, and you could tell that the kitchen put a lot of care into preparing each dish.
Throughout the meal, our waiter made sure our drinks were always topped off and was attentive to any other needs we had. It’s rare to experience such great service alongside delicious food.
If you’re ever in Pell City, Alabama, the Tavern/St. Clair is a must-visit. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this place offers a fantastic dining experience that shouldn’t be missed!
Shrimp and Grits was rich and creamy, seasoned throughout, and with several large shrimp allowing me to enjoy the entire dish. Salmon over Risotto was tender and melted together with ease.
Kudos to the team for ensuring the restrooms were clean and well stocked.
I had the chocolate cherry old fashioned cocktail, to start, and it was delicious.
Then I ordered the Tuscan Pasta with grilled chicken and the house salad with ranch dressing. The penne pasta had a cream sauce with cherry tomatoes, spinach, and tender, thinly sliced grilled chicken. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked.
But I’m kind of laughing that the salad is what I’m yearning to have again, asap. With house-made dressing, red onions, & candied chopped pecans on field greens… well, it was the best salad I’ve had in a while.
My boyfriend had the spaghetti with meatballs and Cesar salad, and he ate every bite, even dabbing the last of the sauce with the yummy grilled bread they served with our meals.
The only thing I would wish for was more cozy seating, but I’m a sucker for a comfortable chair or a nice booth, so I’m biased. The atmosphere is clean and pretty with warm dark woods and historic photos from Pell City.
I can’t rave about The St. Clair more and I highly recommend you give it a try!
Our server was very friendly and courteous.
But the food is way overpriced and just not good.
I had seafood pasta (pictured) which was $39. It just wasn’t a $39 pasta dish. It had a couple of grilled shrimp and scallops but the sauce was creamy with small tomatoes and wasn’t anything to brag about. And the noodles were way overcooked that were almost like a mound of goo.
My wife ordered ribeye steak and it was way too salty that she couldn’t eat more than 1/4 of it.
We’re not going back.
