Must-Visit Spot in Pell City: Tavern/St. Clair
On a recent Saturday night, we decided to stop by the Tavern/St. Clair in Pell City for a bite to eat, and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly staff that made us feel right at home. After a warm welcome, they quickly seated us and took our drink orders, setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening.
Our waiter was outstanding—his knowledge of the menu was impressive, and he went above and beyond to recommend some great food options. He also highlighted the chef’s specials, which added an extra layer of excitement to the meal.
When the food arrived, we were immediately impressed. It came out quickly, hot, and looking as great as it was advertised. Every dish was flavorful and tender, and the bursts of flavor with each bite were truly delightful. The freshness of the ingredients was evident, and you could tell that the kitchen put a lot of care into preparing each dish.
Throughout the meal, our waiter made sure our drinks were always topped off and was attentive to any other needs we had. It’s rare to experience such great service alongside delicious food.
If you’re ever in Pell City, Alabama, the Tavern/St. Clair is a must-visit. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this place offers a fantastic dining experience that shouldn’t be missed!

The food and service were delicious. I didn’t read the reviews I simply looked at the menu and knew I would be trying the Fried Green Tomato Stack as a starter, I was NOT disappointed. The tomato was firm, the batter was crisp and to my surprise the tomato and batter stayed together to the last bite.

Shrimp and Grits was rich and creamy, seasoned throughout, and with several large shrimp allowing me to enjoy the entire dish. Salmon over Risotto was tender and melted together with ease.

Kudos to the team for ensuring the restrooms were clean and well stocked.

Wow. So this is now our go to place when we want a quiet dinner with amazing food and great service! It is the BEST food in a three county area and just what we had been missing from our rotation. Great steaks, great burgers, great pasta and the absolute BEST appetizer, their Tavern Fries! Covered with thin sliced beef and an au jus and seasonings that coordinate well. Wow. Just wow. So if yall are heading down I-20 and go by Pell City and are in the mood for a great meal, the Tavern at St. Clair is your go to!

My wife and one of our daughters went there for dinner. It wasn’t crowded at the time. The waitress was very attentive and kind. We ordered the tavern fries as an appetizer it was very hearty and delicious. My wife ordered the chef special Chopped, smoked pork with jalapeno and mushroom pasta with fried shallots on top, it was very unique but tasty. My daughter ordered the blackened chicken alfredo. It was perfectly cooked chicken with a rich Alfredo pasta it was a wonderful dish. I ordered the seafood pasta. It was very good, rich pasta with grilled shrimp and scallops on top I would definitely get it again. Wonderful atmosphere and a great experience. We will definitely go again!

We wanted a nice dinner out for Valentine’s Day (eve), and we’ve been saying for a year we wanted to try The St. Clair. We weren’t disappointed. Clayton was our waiter, and I wish he could serve me every time I go out. Not only did he know the menu well, he seemed to truly love the restaurant and the food.

I had the chocolate cherry old fashioned cocktail, to start, and it was delicious.

Then I ordered the Tuscan Pasta with grilled chicken and the house salad with ranch dressing. The penne pasta had a cream sauce with cherry tomatoes, spinach, and tender, thinly sliced grilled chicken. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked.
But I’m kind of laughing that the salad is what I’m yearning to have again, asap. With house-made dressing, red onions, & candied chopped pecans on field greens… well, it was the best salad I’ve had in a while.

My boyfriend had the spaghetti with meatballs and Cesar salad, and he ate every bite, even dabbing the last of the sauce with the yummy grilled bread they served with our meals.

The only thing I would wish for was more cozy seating, but I’m a sucker for a comfortable chair or a nice booth, so I’m biased. The atmosphere is clean and pretty with warm dark woods and historic photos from Pell City.

I can’t rave about The St. Clair more and I highly recommend you give it a try!

What a treat this was!! This was our first time visiting The St Clair and it was an excellent choice. The service the staff the food the adult beverages all top tier!! Our waitress Jennie was so patient with us as we were running our mouths and giggling with friends that we didn’t see rush to order.. We finally decided and got the Fried Green Tomato and Grilled Shrimp stack and Meatballs in marinara sauce was DELicious!!! We all got a diff entreé. We got crabcake sammich, the Fried Cod sammich, Grilled Salmon w/risotto and the Shrimp and grits.. for dessert we had lemon Creme Brulee. Our drinks were excellent. I had the Lychee martini. A Dragonfruit margarita, a peach old fashion and a watermelon sour margarita. All the drinks were delicious and refreshing. Omg the Lemon creme brulee was creamy, lemony with a perfectly seared candied topping. Everything was so daggone good. Stop in Pell City for an amazing meal and ex excellent service at The St Clair Tavern. You can thank me later.

The atmosphere and service are not bad at all.
Our server was very friendly and courteous.
But the food is way overpriced and just not good.
I had seafood pasta (pictured) which was $39. It just wasn’t a $39 pasta dish. It had a couple of grilled shrimp and scallops but the sauce was creamy with small tomatoes and wasn’t anything to brag about. And the noodles were way overcooked that were almost like a mound of goo.
My wife ordered ribeye steak and it was way too salty that she couldn’t eat more than 1/4 of it.
We’re not going back.

The food was good! However we didn’t realize that they only served a brunch menu on Sunday. That was a bit of a letdown since we had wanted food from their main menu (the main reason we went). The brunch menu was good, just not what we had in mind that day. The restaurant was very clean and in a good location. The staff were also very good and nice! I probably wouldn’t go back for brunch but I would go back for their normal menu! We got the steak bowl and the traditional breakfast and it was good but nothing special.
