I’ve been coming to Spud Shack since 2013 (which I believe was around the time they first opened) and have never been disappointed. At that time I had never had a poutine in Montreal, but whenever anyone would ask about the best poutine place, this would be the spot I’d tell them about. Being 100% honest, they would also be impressed. I had moved from Ontario, and whenever my friends and family visited, this place has become a sample of part of their trip. (They’ve all loved the routines!)
There was a time this past year, I finally visited Montreal and had a poutine. And let me tell you, it was a good poutine, but I think Spud Shack has always had the best poutine for me, that my standards have become high when trying different places.
The curds are great, the gravy is tasty and the fries stay crispy.
This will always be the best poutine place for me and I’ll always bring my visiting friends and family here for some awesome poutine!

Starting my series of reviews of my favorite places for comfort food.
Spudshack is located at one of the New Westminster skytrain stops.
After a long day at work, missed lunch and no energy to make dinner – I hope out at this stop to pick up my poutine and a fork. So, if you’ve been on the train seeing me break open my take out box – yes, the food definitely can not wait.
I not a big fan of poutine but these folks make me a believer.

A local store that has been here in New Westminster Station for years. It is my first time trying poutine; honestly, it is not that special. For me, it is a little salty. Other than that, the portion is huge for a small size suitable for sharing. Definitely, try it out with your friend if u guys are studying at Douglas College or live in the neighbourhood.

We had a very good experience visiting The Spud Shack. It’s a comfort food joint with very tasty options. I loved their pouting. The burgers have this rustic, non-mass produced feel to them. Served with a generous amount of fries. Friendly staff and good music. We’ll visit them again for sure.

Had a fabulous time here. Spud shack is nestled conveniently by new Westminster skytrain station and the movie theatre. I discovered my new favorite burger: the Hawaiian, it was ridiculously delicious.
They have over 10 different poutines and each one is so unique and artfully crafted. The night market poutine was a highlight for me.

If you’re eating by yourself, a portion of medium poutine is enough. Nonetheless, the shredded pork (called the Squealer) poutine was pretty filling and delicious. Would come back again and try their other flavours.

I recently visited The Spud shack and had a bit of a wait before getting served. We stood outside for a while checking out the menu, and when we walked in, it felt like the staff were just chatting and not wanting to help us. We were the only ones there and when we initially entered the cooks ran to the back to look busy and the hostess said she had to clean up some tables first before offering to take our order. ( All the tables looked very clean and no one had entered recently or left during the period we were outside the building deciding what we wanted so I’m not sure why they didn’t do that beforehand when it was slow)
They also only have can and bottled drinks, which was a bit disappointing since I was hoping for a fountain drink.
On the food side, I really enjoyed my Buffalo chicken poutine, but I was let down when I noticed the cook let some pieces of chicken fall off at the pick up counter and didn’t add more back, so there wasn’t much chicken on it. My friend got The Nightmarket poutine and loved it—definitely better portions there! The food was warm, fresh, and the place was definitely clean, which was a plus.

Staff are great and will answer any questions you have and will help you make the right choice as they have so many unique poutines to choose from. We had the The Gaucho “Cowboy” it was so much flavor it almost overwhelmed us. The flavors work with each other and each bit is delicious yet never the same as the last bite. We had the smalls and they were still rather large in size so be mindful when ordering as this is not food to be wasted and enjoyed. My friend now wants to go back when back in town visiting as they want to try more of the offerings.
