I normally do not write reviews, with that said this place is outstanding! Everything from start to finish was just wonderful! We visited on Valentine’s Day, the moment we walked in we felt special. Sat down and was met with champagne. It was a tasting menu where you can pick this or that. The bread service was amazing, local sourdough and that house made butter was superb. I enjoyed the presentation of the crudite, very fun and playful. Hands down my favorite was the crudo! Beautiful to look at and oh my, the flavors and textures were so thought out. I seriously had no complaints the whole night. Also to add the staff is so friendly and their wine selection is top notch! This is a husband and wife run restaurant and I enjoyed seeing them out on the floor touching tables and just being so happy to be there. I will definitely be back!!

Where do I even begin?!?! I have had the Speckled Pear on my list for a year now (I live in Virginia) and I FINALLY got a chance to give it a try. First impression: 1000% worth traveling over state lines for. I will be back!!

I got the privilege of attending Saturday brunch and Saturday dinner. Both experiences had their differences and similarities and have me counting down the days until I go back.

Brunch: If you are looking for a spot to catch-up with a friend and enjoy a mimosa and the most divine French toast…this is the place to go! Because The Pear has been on my visit list for so long, I got a little bit of everything. My top food item was the avocado toast; the crust was toasted just right and it all melted in my mouth. My second favorite was the French toast – the fresh caramel on top was the perfect touch. There were no wrong choices for brunch on this day.

Dinner: The cozy environment of the morning switched over so flawlessly. There is definitely a lot more people in the building at night, but it was still such a relaxing dining experience. To start we got a bread board and glasses of wine. I wasn’t sure what I wanted but had an idea that I shared with the sommelier and he helped pick the perfect glass of wine to start my evening. Having a staff that was knowledgeable on the items was so helpful in making our decisions for dinner. For my main dish I got the short rib, and it was gone before I knew it. Every bite melted in my mouth, and I have been thinking about it ever since. Now…dessert. WOW! We got the salted caramel budino and blackberry cobbler with lavender ice cream. Both were the perfect combinations of savory and sweet to finish off the beautiful meal we had.

Now for my favorite part of my visit(s): The owners came out while we were eating and when we finished to check on how our service was and introduce themselves/say hello again. I LOVE that they do this. It added such a personal touch to this Family-Owned dining experience both in the morning at brunch and in the evening at dinner. The Speckled Pear was so lovely, and I appreciate all the dedication these owners have poured into their craft. I look forward to returning in the future.

I’ve added pictures of both the brunch and dinner we had!

The Speckled Pear is hands-down one of the best dining experiences in the area and easily my favorite restaurant. Every visit feels special, and the consistency is unmatched.
Most recently, we attended their Battle of the Somms dinner, and it was incredible—thoughtfully curated wines, two tastings per course, and pairings that elevated every dish. The food was exceptional, from a luxurious egg yolk ravioli with truffles (so good I forgot to film it!) to a perfectly balanced soufflé served with ice cream topped with raspberry sauce, thyme, and a hint of sea salt. Truly divine.
Whether it’s their regular menu or one of their special events, the creativity, execution, and hospitality at The Speckled Pear are always top-tier. If you’re looking for a memorable meal with outstanding service and inspired flavors, this is the place.

This is a hard review to write because we really enjoyed the service and had high hopes. Ultimately we were really disappointed and would not recommend the speckled pear for its price point. It’s a really nice date night atmosphere for Fort Mill but the food was not good. You can see the details from each dish below. Another issue we had was that many of our dishes were not warm (bordering on cold). The atmosphere and service were able to pull this out of the 2 rating by a hair.

Bone Marrow: 1/5 – we have recently been on a bone marrow kick and this did not meet the bar. Highly priced too.
Fondue: 4/5 – this was pretty good. The table enjoyed it.
TSP Onion Soup: 2/5 – cold and somewhat bland in flavor. Would not recommend.
Fall Vegetable Bisque: 4/5 – the table really enjoyed this but it was also a little cold which was disappointing.
White Truffle Pasta: 3/5 – not bad but not that impressed (especially given it was a special)
Butter Basted Sea Scallops: 3/5 – the scallops themselves were good but the Brussels were undercooked.
Lemon Custard (was a special): 5/5 – best thing we had all night. No issues. Delicious.

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at The Speckled Pear. We made same day reservations and they were able to accommodate us at the bar. The owners Robyn and Michael took time to provide great information about the dishes on the menu even on a busy night. We ordered the scallops and the mushroom gnocchi for our main entrees. Kristie was an amazing bartender and we had a lovely conversation with her. The food and service were amazing! We will definitely be back.

Don’t sleep on Speckled Pear – this place is a GEM of a local place! Tucked away just off the Fort Mill downtown main drag, this unassuming and quaint restaurant does. not. dissappoint! We had the pleasure of attending a special event last night (“Taste of Japan” – 7 courses with sake pairing from an onsite expert) and I swear we were at a Michellin-starred restaurant. The attention to detail, the flavors, the presentation… incredible. I specifically cannot stop thinking about the carefully crafted dessert that was so beautiful and also delicious! It was an edible terrarium! Wow! Anywho, this place is amazing – whatever the occasion. Whether it be a quick lunch, a date night, or a special event, I highly recommend! Aaaand the owners are just the sweetest people! ❤️❤️

The Speckled Pear is enchanting! Tucked away like a true hidden gem, this restaurant delivered an unforgettable experience with chef Michael Bader’s Mediterranean tasting menu paired with exquisite wines. Each course was a masterpiece of creativity and passion, perfectly plated in a stunning and engaging manner. The balances of seasonings, acidity, texture, and those enchanting wisps of smoky flavors left us spellbound! If you appreciate top-tier quality, this is an absolute must-go recommendation. Five stars all the way – we’ll be back!

My favorite restaurant in the greater Charlotte region, and I’ve been to most of the top ones! Robyn Bader and Chef Michael Bader do an amazing job of making you feel at home with amazing front of the house service combined with impeccable cuisine. They also have unique wine offerings that allows foodies to try different wines from unique locations. I bring all of my friends from out of town here because I know they’re always going to knock it out of the park. I can’t wait to come back again!

First off I want to say I am excited that downtown Fort Mill continues to add local owned restaurants. The Speckled Pear has been on my “to try list” for the past month and I was super excited in hopes to find a replacement to my favorite locally owned restaurant that closed almost 2 years ago. I read the reviews , however I did not scroll far enough in the posted reviews to be certain my expectations would be met. The atmosphere/decor was a nine out of 10. So for the food…I got the onion soup which is their spin on the classic “French onion soup” and I felt the broth was a bit bland. My husband got the scallop dish. It was a solid 7.5 out of 10, but he is also not a very picky eater. I got the short rib and much to my surprise it was dry and absent of flavor. When I mentioned to the waitress that the short rib was a bit dry/overcooked, (understanding that they are often prepared long before a dinner service) the waiter asked if there was anything that could make my experience better and I politely asked for some more au jus in hopes that this would alleviate some of the jerky texture.
Most of the flavor was in the
au jus. When we received the bill, we were shocked that we were charged $1 for the extra to au jus (which was used essentially try and save the braised rib from being a total disaster). Once again it is not about the dollar, I wholeheartedly am fine with spending $40 on a short rib if it is going to be amazing and not require any doctoring ( at my expense), but what I don’t like is when restaurants charge $40 also not understanding that some people don’t have that kind of money to throw away on a bad culinary experience if this is intended to be a treat for them. I eat out often and have so in multiple countries had the same dish and this was definitely not the norm. Giving the braised short rib 4 out of 10. I am not sure that I will be back to try any other dishes. I would like to say this is a one off, but in reading a previous viewers take on the same dish this appears to be a pattern. There is a bit too much variation to spend that kind of money on a night out. So grand total for 2 entrees and 1 soup was about $100 .
Hoping they take this back as constructive criticism and improve on a what could be outstanding dish and experience.
