Really enjoyed this spot for breakfast! I got the Hen’s Hash and the Buttermilk Poppyseed Pancakes and both were great! We did sit in the back of the restaurant on small stools at a very awkward bar that made dining with others very difficult and was very uncomfortable for my 7 month pregnant sister. Definitely make a reservation to get yourself a table!! I can’t wait to go back!

Service was quick. Would recommend making a reservation. Food was on par with other brunch restaurants.

The service was prompt and friendly, the atmosphere was lovely, and the food was delicious. I truly enjoyed my visit. If I could suggest one thing, it would be to add more variety to the vegan options.

If I could give 10 stars I would, I visited South Pittsburgh PA. And this place was quite amazing. Even though PA has lots of small amazing places to eat, I was lucky to stumble upon this one. The place was Immaculate had nice air circulation everything was clean bright. Obviously a good place because there were a lot of people. They have an attached coffee shop. They have outside seating and the restaurant it’s a really good size. You can see all the cooking being done right in front of you they have an outside kitchen that is visible. There was a lovely bartender at the bar and lots of restaurant seating. Bartender was extremely friendly, polite, and helpful, and I enjoyed my conversation with her. The food was absolutely amazing. I went in for breakfast twice, and they made a regular breakfast look like a gourmet meal for regular breakfast prices. I couldn’t have been happier. Low price making normal cuisine into an interesting dish by adding their own touches and mixing flavors with traditional food. I honestly really enjoyed the spot, and I will definitely go back who is in this area…

The good: quality food, good service, fast service, limited wait (we had a reservation), and really spacious dining room with good acoustics and decor.

The bad: they raised prices without changing the paper menu, the online menu, or giving any heads up to patrons. I understand needing to change prices in this economy, but as a business you need to communicate prices to your customers transparently.

Also bad: cappuccino was not good (espresso poorly extracted, milk not foamed long enough, just bad taste) despite quality coffee beans (I’ve brewed this bean at home before)

I asked for the Hen’s hash, that was actually tasty and well cooked added chicken sausage, just I am little be used to kindness of people in brunch places I’d be more cautious about it if I were them.

They have spacious dining.
Great selections.
Service with Debra P was great.
Coffee is a bit too strong for us but I asked Debra to pour me little hot water in my cup.
I’m not a fan of their sweet pork sausages because had a sweer flavor but everyone has different taste.
And we were here on Sunday so the street parking was free.

One of the best brunch spots in the Burgh. Love the collabs with Commonplace Coffee and Pittsburgh Juice Co. I’m not a sweets for brunch person so I was happy to order a Patty Melt. Will be back for a boozy brunch soon.

Reviewed December 6, 2025 (visited this morning)

I’ve been to The Speckled Egg multiple times over the past year and have always left impressed. I regularly recommend it to my 10k+ followers on my Pittsburgh food account because the smashed-potato benedict and lemon-ricotta pancakes are legitimately some of the best brunch dishes in the city.

Today, however, the experience at the host stand was frustrating enough that I have to speak up.
We arrived at 11:10 for our 11:15 reservation—five minutes early. We checked in and were immediately told, “We’re still waiting on some 11:00 parties,” and asked to step aside. Over the next ten minutes I watched:

• Several parties who arrived after us (clearly late for their 11:00 reservations) get walked straight to tables.

• Another couple with the exact same 11:15 reservation time walk in at 11:16 and get seated instantly while we continued standing there.
We were finally seated at 11:20. No apology, no explanation—just a ten-minute wait while later arrivals were prioritized.

Here’s the thing: almost every popular brunch spot in Pittsburgh now requires a credit card on file and charges $25–$100 per person for late arrivals or no-shows. The Speckled Egg does not, which is totally their prerogative, but if you’re going to run without that policy, the very least you can do is treat everyone fairly and seat people in the order they check in (especially when someone shows up early and others are late).

A quick “Hey, we’re running a few minutes behind, thanks for being early—we’ll get you in as soon as we can” would have completely diffused the situation. Instead it felt dismissive and inconsistent.

I hope management considers either implementing a credit-card-hold policy (like the rest of the city) or at the very least training the host team on basic fairness and communication. The Speckled Egg is too good to let ten awkward minutes at the door overshadow an otherwise excellent hospitality.

Great spot for some brunch! Espresso martinis were on point, as was the food. I got the coconut chip pudding (surprisingly filling) and my friends housed the breakfast sandwich and the deviled egg toast. Gets crowded on weekends until about 1pm, so be prepared to sit at a counter.
