Finally got over to the Smoking Jay to sample their BBQ and were delighted with the food. The pulled pork was so tasty and we loved the jojos and smoked cole slaw. Hubby is not usually a fan of slaws with mayo but the addition of smoked vinegar gave this a unique flavor we both loved. The place is casual, affordable, and friendly. We’ll be back!

The best barbeque I’ve had in Oregon, from the beginning to the end. We ordered pulled pork, chicken breast, brisket, corn muffins, housemade smoked pickles, brussel sprouts, and keylime pie. They also gave us 2 free ribs as we were there towards the end of the night.
The meat was moist and lightly seasoned, placing emphasis on the cook, with vinegar based sauces that balanced sweet and tangy perfectly. Im not usually a fan of brisket due to how oily it tends to be, theirs is one of the few I would order again. Pork ribs were fantastic, with a light glaze that kept them from being sticky. The caramelized brussel sprouts were amazing, with the bright pops of cranberry really helping to brighten the flavor. The house pickles made a great palate cleanser between bites, they were nice and crispy. Corn muffins were warm and buttery, with kernels of corn speckled throughout.
My “best in show”, though, is the keylime pie. It was truly the best I’ve ever had; the smoked caramel and the graham cracker crust with smoked butter brought this rounded weight to such a sharp flavor, making it the perfect cap for what can be a pretty heavy meal. I ended up ordering extra to go.
The staff were inviting and friendly, the a space was painted an uplifting shade of blue, and the gentle din of the kitchens paired along side some sofly playing music, all of which created an atmosphere that soothes your soul as you eat. You won’t be disappointed if you choose to eat here, it may just do you some good.

Delicious bbq. A bit expensive, smaller portions. But tastes saves the day. Awesome baby back ribs. Roasted chicken was great. Potato salad on point. Great customer service. I would rate this a 9 of out 10.

It’s a very quaint restaurant with laid back atmosphere. Food is absolutely delicious the burnt ends were bbq’d just right amount and the Brussels sprouts were amazing. We added the spicy sauce for an extra added sweet kick. They have perfected the pork belly with its tender moist Smokey flavor. People were coming in and out non stop to order you a delicious meal or side. I would definitely recommend checking the Smoking Jay at least once if you have a little time and a bit of money to spend. It’s well worth it!! I’m sure if their business was a bit bigger they would still fill all the tables easily. Next time I’m having their key-lime pie!

What can I say this place is absolutely amazing and they have the best smoked Brisket and pork belly you will find anywhere. One other must is their Jo-joes, never have I ever had such a delicious Jo-jo and I promise you won’t either.

Phenomenal barbecue Jay. This wins out over a quite a few joints even in Texas. Could definitely eat here every day. Shared 1/2lb brisket was very tender, smoky flavor, good bark, good cuts between lean and moist. Pulled pork was also well done, not over seasoned and not dried out. Pork belly burnt ends were excellent, Great exterior, with delicious frothy pockets. Bbq sauce was also good, not too sweet, once again more with more tang and acidic qualities to balance the meats. House slaw delicious, quite tangy but helped cut the richness of the meats. Similarly the smoked pickles were also very zesty but I loved it. Fried brussel sprouts were a delight, good texture with a touch of sweetness, not bitter except the crisp bits. Key Lime Pie was also noteworthy.

It is simply wild how stellar the quality and craftsmanship behind this menu is. We live right down the street and continue to be shocked that theyre so easy to miss just out of the way on king road. While its maybe no surprise that their meat is top notch, what shocks me everytime we come is that every. single. item. from the hollandaise to the shells and cheese, is truly thought through and perfectly executed. We love this place. The couple that run it are kind and funny and considerate in their service. Its the type of business that really deserves to thrive.

Been here several times and EVERYTHING is delicious. The pork belly tacos are my go to and the jojos are the best around! The smoked coleslaw is the best in Portland hands down! Basically everything on the menu is a YES!!
