I chose this place because of how dog-friendly and family-friendly it is. It was easy to bring my baby’s stroller and still sit inside. Service was fast and great! Food was really good. I loved the crab cake BLT and the sweet potato fries are so so good. Worth the side upgrade charge. My husband had the holy city burger without the bun, and on a bed of lettuce which was also really good. My friend had the smash burger without fries and she liked it! A great, chill place with good food!!

My wife and I had lunch at The Shelter Kitchen. There were very few people there on this Tuesday at noon, It took awhile for a hostess to appear, but she eventually came and said to sit anywhere.
The BBQ chicken quesadillas and the Holy Mother Clucker Chicken Sandwich were generous-sized and delicious. The sweet potato fries were good, but the fried okra was disappointingly fried pickled okra, and we didn’t eat much of it. I think that should be described as such on the menu.
There were lots of TVs on, so this should be a happening place during football games this fall.

Shelter is by far one of my favorite spots in town. The atmosphere is fun, the staff make you feel like family, the food is delicious, and to top it off, they have a separate menu just for dogs which I appreciate (my dog especially loves the chicken and eggs).
Ava was my waitress and she did a fantastic job. She was professional, super friendly, paid close attention to detail, and was quick to service our table, plus she gave me some good Christmas shopping tips – I wish I could leave a 6 star review!
Overall, I had a great time at Shelter and highly recommend it to anyone. Keep up the great work!

On Wednesdays they have 8$ bottles of wine and 8$ smash burgers. The chef did a great job making a perfect juicy burger and crispy Fries. Ava was attentive and had great suggestions. The whole staff was friendly and professional. Can’t wait to come back.

Great time! We sit outside for a 4th of July dinner and like the music there. Food was good but nothing special. Loaded fries were TOP, highly recommend to split. Brisket melt was just OKAY, bacon BLT was good but avocado inside is in a hot sandwich so it was hard to eat, I’d rather get something else next time. Portions are big, that’s good. Shem Sunrise is a pretty cocktail but not too strong. Waiters were nice but it does take some time for them to circle back to your table and refill drinks. It was $72 for two people with one cocktail and one side. Overall, recommend for young people if you are on Shem Creek.

So honestly, I enjoy the place. Service was pretty good. My only problem was, BBQ was dry. Like it has been pulled apart and sitting for a while under a lamp….. It tastes very good, but again very dry. However, the rice was on point. I’d eat here again, but I doubt I’ll get your BBQ again.

Locally owned !!!!! to start off with. What a breath of fresh air in food !! Everything was absolutely amazing and delicious. For starters the seafood dip was delicious , the seafood is local and fresh off the Docks! The Hush Puppies were delicious with the Butter.
Lily was amazing waitress she acted like we were the only ones dinning! Lily made sure are drinks never ran out , always a beautiful smile and wonderful person.
For the main meal we had Shrimp n Grits and the smothered Biscuit. The Best Shrimp n Grits in Town hands down ! The smothered Chicken Biscuit was just pure delicious, wearing the portions are huge well worth the price.
We asked Lily to talk to the manager who was another amazing person , Summer thank you for taking the time to chat with us ! Summer was incredible person and once again another wonderful smile to great you with ! You can tell all the wait staff enjoyed what they were doing as you looked around.
Also bring your Dog if you did not want to leave it at the House or your Hotel room ( if your out of town) . they even have a Dog menu for you to order off of.

Saw this place on Food Network and it looked great. Stopped by on a visit to Charleston SC. Found out they switched owners since the show. The ambiance was nice, but, the food and service were lacking. Not that the food was bad, just expected more. We had the calamari, a bog bowl, loaded fries and Mac and cheese.
