Edit/update!
I stopped in today to see everyone, and the first thing I noticed right off the bat was the new barstools—every one of them was red. The bartender, who was very friendly, told me they had just been delivered and that today was their first day in use.
My only question is this: why upgrade the barstools if customers are still sitting in front of a row of dark, dimly lit televisions? A couple of the screens are bright enough that the ice during a hockey game actually looks white, but most of them appear as though the stadium lights have been turned off—especially the projector. That’s really my only negative point.
And to be clear, I’m actually a very positive person. The positives here far outweigh the negatives. In the summer, nobody can compete with this place—the live music on the sand is unbeatable. The sign out front proudly says Sports Bar, and they truly live up to that; you can watch practically any sport you want, and they’re great about taking requests. The bar itself is fantastic, with an impressive lineup of beers on tap and plenty of options. Honestly, it’s one of the best places in Grand Rapids. The food, the bartenders, the staff, and even the clientele are five-stars across the board.
With all of that going for them, though, there are still about seven TVs on each side of the bar, many of which are outdated. Because of everything else they do so well, I’m updating my original one-star rating to something much closer to a four. I just really enjoy watching sports on crisp, modern screens.
I love that they have indoor and outdoor seating to acommodate any weather conditions. Outdoor volleyball and other activities. It’s a great venue for birthdays, Bachelor/Bachelorette parties and other gatherings, they have special sections (like the big boat) that you can reserve for your group as well.
Special Shout out to the staff & managers. Everyone does a great job to assure you enjoy your experience, they are friendly and attentive. Ashley (Hostess) does a great job handling the crowd and keeping things organized & moving along. Logan in the kitchen rocks too. our food has been great and cooked to perfection every time. We’ve been lucky enough to have Chloe as a server many times in the past and she is on it. Now, as a manager, (Well deserved!) she seems to do a great job keeping things organized and the staff motivated to provide everyone with a fun experience.
Looking forward to many more visits this summer. Highly recommend a night out (or several) at The Score!
The food was alright. The drinks were strong
My southwest chicken wrap was alright if I didn’t have the honey mustard to put on every bite pretty plain tasting.
My man loved his elote dip he got. But his burnt ends were not good. They were super fatty and tough
For an appetizer, we opted for the pickle chips, and they were a definite highlight! They arrived nicely crispy and boasted a generous portion size, making for a great start to the meal.
Our entrees included the summer berry salad and the mahi-mahi. The salad was truly delicious, fresh and flavorful. The mahi-mahi, however, was just okay; while not bad, the accompanying vegetables were actually the star of that dish.
Overall, the service was attentive and the appetizer and salad were excellent. While the mahi-mahi was a bit of a miss, we’d still consider returning for the standout pickle chips and summer berry salad.
Nice choice of menu items that you’d expect to find in a sports bar atmosphere: sandwiches, burgers, etc. Portions are right-sized, jn which will finish your meal and not make you hate yourself for eating too much.
I enjoyed the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, and I recommend the Steak Fries.
Full bar from spirits to wine or beer, both in bottles or draught.
Prices are typical of what you’d expect, and don’t feel ripped off by what you pay for.
Now for the fun: there is an outdoor sandlot volleyball area with 3 courts going at a time. There are Spring, Summer, and late-Summer leagues – so look for the sign-ups to enter your team, or play as a sub.
The bar also has a beach area, where you can hang out by the lake. You won’t be able to access the lake, however, as the water quality is sketchy.
There is also an enclosed outdoor play area for small kids. Lots of things to climb on and all on a sand surface.
The back area also has a stage for live performances. You won’t find major names on tour, but you will get some really good bands from the area and beyond. Look for the schedule posted at the venue.
Staff was great all around!
I have not gone during a game day, but I can imagine it would be a very exciting atmosphere.
