The Aston Islander on the Beach is not a resort property with all the on-site restaurants, slide pools, fitness center, spa staff, etc. What it does have is a nice, quiet, place to have a tropical drink and be able to hear the wind and waves instead of endless “Marco Polo” screams. Clientele seems to be older, long term guests of the hotel as well as a few loyal locals. Mark at the Sandbar is the perfect bartender and host. He likes to play 80’s and 90’s Rock softly, but he takes a few requests. The featured drinks at Happy Hour (3-6pm) are Mai Tai, Lava Flow, Piña Colada, , Chi Chi, and a few more. Sorry, no draft beer (dang!).

This bar is open at 7 in the morning for coffee and cocktails. It reopens at 3 pm for happy hour and on into the evening.

We ordered two canned beers because they did not have unbeatable cups for draft. At happy hour they were $1 off. The bartender took our card, we never received an actual bill. She charged for two beers on our second round rather than for one, as we ordered only one beer the second round. We did not notice until we got home since we never got a bill. Be aware of your charges.

Nice location, but service is not very welcoming and they only offer beer in cans for $8… Better go to safeway and drink your own beer on your balcony for a better value – or visit the great Lava Lava bar nearby.
