The menu looked amazing and we had trouble narrowing down the great looking options. But what we got had a wide range of quality.
My wife loves salmon all sorts of ways so she got the Thai Chili Salmon. I’ve never seen her not eat all of her salmon and she left half. It wasn’t fishy, but it didn’t have a good flavor. Her mashed potatoes and gravy were great, though.
I got the liver and onions and they were just ok. What got me was that I paid extra for a baked sweet potato and it was maybe 3″ long and undercooked. I got very little potato out of it. But, the fried dill pickles were good.
We started with the pirogies and they were great.
We got some drinks and said we just wanted the regular spirits. They upcharged us $2 for each drink for Grey Goose even though we requested no specials. And my wife’s drink was supposed to be a fixed charge.
Bottom line – if we come back, we’ll just get the Chicken Fried Steak, which we heard was good.

Decent little restaurant. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and service was good. The food was good though my steak was a little dry. The bread pudding was great and service was quick. Overall my experience was good and if you looking for a place to eat in Wilson I think this is the best your gonna get.

Small towns have been getting cooler while I’ve been living in other states. We popped in here for dinner and although it was pretty full, we got very decent service, interesting and delicious cocktails, and way more really good food than I could actually eat.

Stopped here on our way through Kansas. Stayed in the hotel above. Potions were generous and delicious. I’m not sure what they call their fries but they are out of this world. Kind of like a steak cut curly fry. Both of us enjoyed our meal and the piece of bread pudding that we were sent upstairs with is the biggest I’ve ever seen. I’m almost ashamed to admit that I ate the whole thing. Lol. Sooo good.

Popular place with the locals, so make reservations. Also, only one of two places to eat dinner in town. Well made drinks.

The food was wonderful: the entree, the dessert, the service, the beer list. Wonderful! I only wish I could’ve eaten twice. Also our waiter was doing a really good job of keeping up with a crowd and looked totally unruffled.

I would probably not come here again if there were more options.
Service was fairly good they forgot to bring us some things we asked for.
Took about 30 minutes to get food with a reservation.
The food was okay, but I don’t think it was worth the price. It was the worst prime rib I’ve ever had, and it was $28. Pricing for the specials is not advertised or shown conveniently.
Steak was overcooked, and salmon was dry.
The friendliness and helpfulness of the waiter made these 3 stars. Would’ve been 2 if they weren’t so kind.
They serve rolls with cold cinnamon butter, which is not great. but the rolls were yummy.
Thousand island dressing was homemade and quite yummy.

Accessibility ♿️: 0/5 stairs to entrances, tables are too low and too close together. Not appropriate bathroom. Parking is mostly across the street in a gravel area.

Kid friendly: they have high chairs, but I didn’t see a changing table. They have a kids’ menu, which is about $6-$8.

This was our first time at this restaurant and they did not disappoint!!! Our party had the Rueben sandwich with house made onion rings, the bacon cheese burger with house made chips, and I had the chicken fried steak dinner! It was great and the service was excellent! Thank you Sample Room for a great eating experience!! 3 ladies from Larned, Kansas

Very nice place, in the basement of a historical railroad hotel. In general, loved the place … the service was kind and attentive, and the “feel” was great. We both had the fried chicken special … it was good, but not off-the-charts spectacular. It was fried a bit too much, so the breading was very crispy, if not just brown. Good but not great.
