The noodles (there’s 3 types to chose from) with spring rolls for $15 is definitely a great deal in this economy. They give you a decent amount of toppings and noodles. The broth is pretty light. Not too much MSG in it.
Both the lemongrass chicken rice and the grilled pork vermicelli has the same charredness to the meat. I loved the charcoal flavour to it. I thought the portion to the vermicelli was HUGE and the amount of chicken in the rice was very generous.
This is a great lunch option for this area
– Goi xoai du du ($12.95) – small kick but standard mango papaya flavours
– Cha gio cua ($14.00 for 2) – came out piping hot. Truffle crab filling was tasty
– Bun bo hue ($18.00) – decent broth. Viet pork ham was the best of the meats. Brisket was overcooked, pork rib slightly dry, no pork blood
– Goat meat noodle soup ($19.95) – red dates and goji berry, broth was mild. Goat was good
– Bun moc suon ($18.95)
– Grilled pork vermicelli ($17.95)
We also try Da me and Hong tra sui bot which are unique and refreshing after a big meal. Staff are super nice and friendly. And the atmosphere is cozy and warm, perfectly for a family dinner.
The one thing that was disappointment was that they said they did not have Bun Bo Hue ready so my wife ordered a banh mi and I ordered the Beef Rib Pho. Both items were ok and one thing about my pho was the semi cooked egg which I don’t believe I have ever had before which was interesting but good.
Staff was friendly and restaurant was nice. May come back here again if we are in the neighbourhood.
Staff were attentive the entire time there, ensuring we had enough tea and water.
I got the iced Saigon Brown coffee and it was so good, I couldn’t stop drinking it.
We ordered some pork spring rolls to start with and they were nice and crunchy.
Decided on two vermicelli bowls – lemongrass chicken and grilled beef. Both were good sized portions and the chicken was so fragrant and tender. Split my bowl with our 4 year old and she kept saying it was “so good”. Needless to say, bowls were empty as it was so tasty.
Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu.
Must try.
We left very disappointed. I was especially looking forward to the beef luc luc, but after we finished our meal, it still hadn’t arrived. We were about to cancel it when the staff suggested we take it to go. I asked if they were still making it, and they said yes, so we waited a little longer. When it finally came, the steak was cold in the center, dark red inside, and tough on the ends, it seemed like it hadn’t even been defrosted properly.
The chicken skewer was also disappointing. It tasted oily, as if it had been pan-fried, chopped into cubes, and then stuck on a skewer. The green sauce was just oil and salt. The fried rice also tasted off, with a hard texture and an unpleasant aftertaste from some unknown herb. Honestly, I don’t understand why this place has such good reviews.
To be fair, the owner was kind with a free dessert and discount, but it didn’t make up for the poor food quality. We won’t be back.
We also ordered:
Beef Pho ($17.95) – Very tasty. The soup stole the show. The menu says that it is a 24 hour beef bone broth, and you can definitely tell that it’s different.
Double Bowl Knocking Noodle ($17.95) – Also very tasty. It’s a dry noodle with the amazing pork bone broth on the side.
Pork Spring Rolls ($11.95/ 3 pieces) – Very crispy and full of flavors.
Their service was awesome. Very attentive and super polite. If you do reservations, you get a basket of prawn chips as well.
I would want to come back and try other stuff.
