The owner was very sweet and explained the wines wonderfully. The menu switches depending on month/season so just be aware what we had you might not have. Would definitely recommend the Honey Peach, Key Limen, & cherry bomb!! Would definitely love to come back again!

This review is not meant to be harsh, but truthful. With that in mind, please read the entire review.
While the owner was indeed most friendly, as many other reviews have stated, I can only assume that the many reviews that qualify her as knowledgeable are from people who have little to no knowledge about wine. The owner spoke to us of tannins, diamonds and we overheard her defining AVA…all of which she got wrong. When trying to correct her about tannins, she doubled down, so we didn’t bother attempting to enlighten her further. The owners descriptions of the wines being served were spot on and she was most definitely an advocate for the wines being sold from the area she is representing.
The wines served currently at The Rusty Pelican are from the “Tip of the Mitt” and the Upper Peninsula, a much overlooked wine growing region in Michigan. Unfortunately, there was only one of the six wines we sampled, out of the ten or so available the day that we visited, that was okay, but not one we were willing to purchase.
While we only gave a three out of five stars, we would still recommend stopping in at The Rusty Pelican if you have the chance while in the area.

A wine tasting room serving wines from 3 location. 1 near Indian River, 1 near Alpena, and lastly 1 from Florida. Yup you read that right, Florida. You get 1 free pour or 6 for $8 and a free glass. My serves ended up being a mixed bag. I didn’t like 2, thought 2 as ok, and 2 as good. However I didn’t love any. The person I was with liked 3 enough to buy a bottle. So a mixed bag. The service was good and friendly. Overall 4 stars.

Had a spontaneous wine tasting with the hubby tonight and it was awesome. Great shop with a ton of local wines. The shop owner is amazing and so knowledgeable. Can’t wait to go back. Tasting menu changes regularly and prices are fair. If you’re in town definitely make it a stop!

Stopped at The Rusty Pelican to do a wine tasting. The wine is amazing and the shop is warm and inviting! Cassie is very knowledgeable, friendly and fun! I bought 2 bottles of wine and can’t wait to get home and enjoy them. We want to do this again soon!

I can’t believe that this store doesn’t have five stars. If you are new to town and looking for a great place to get wine from this is the place to go! The owner knows what she’s talking about and if you tell her what you’re looking for you can get recommendations. Plus, it’s got a lot of nice cheese to pair with your purchase. If you haven’t tried it and are a connoisseur, I would definitely give them a shot, you won’t be disappointed.

Second time here, I love these people! Family owned and operated. They carry a unique variety of wines. The wine tasting was very informative and I felt like I had just taken a free class on wines. So grateful. We will be back soon.
