Great little drive in. The coney dogs are a bit different than I’ve had but they’re tasty. And the root beer is great. I recommend getting some to take home. Prices are very reasonable. The staff was very friendly and quick. A+

There are moments in the new world where it’s easy to contemplate the real value of a dollar. You pop into a corner shop, buy a chocolate bar and it costs you $2.50. So a dollar is worth 40% of a chocolate bar. Then you go to an antiques market and the entry price is $15. So a dollar is worth 6.7% of an hour in a hot parking lot. Then you go to somewhere like The Root Beer Stand, and you get 2 hot dogs (lovingly topped with homemade chilli, mustard, onions and a pickle spear) and a home brewed root beer for $9. So a dollar is worth 11.1% of a full stomach, nostalgia for a time you didn’t live through, satiated tastebuds, refreshment, great service, charm, convenience and a great memory of a Sunday afternoon. (Also they have those cool trays that hang on your window (pictured)). Amazing experience TRBS, never change.

The chilidogs are the best you’ll ever taste! I swear this location’s food tastes better than the other location down the road. Grace is an excellent server and a total sweetheart. I can’t wait to visit here again!

There is no single answer for what makes the Root Beer Stand in Kalamazoo taste bad to some people, as it can be a combination of issues and personal preference. While many patrons enjoy the experience and flavor, the stand has received mixed reviews, particularly regarding the root beer’s flavor and food quality.
Here are the potential factors that could contribute to a bad taste experience:
The flavor profile is disappointing. Some reviewers feel the root beer has little flavor or is too watery. Since the FDA banned the use of sassafras (the original flavoring) in commercial products in the 1960s, most modern root beers use a mix of other flavorings that some people simply don’t like.
It’s a matter of personal taste. The classic taste of root beer, which relies on a mix of herbs and spices, is not universally loved. Some find the taste to be “weird” or “medicinal,” particularly due to the presence of wintergreen, a flavor also used in toothpaste.
Contamination or poor equipment hygiene. In a worst-case scenario, off-flavors can develop from unclean brewing or serving equipment. While there is no evidence to suggest this is the cause, it is a possible reason for a bad-tasting beverage.
Food quality issues. Some customers have criticized the quality of the food, especially the hot dogs and chili sauce. The hot dogs have been called “poor quality” and the chili has been described as “basically ketchup with a small amount of something unrecognizable mixed in”. If you consumed both, the overall poor food experience could have contributed to a negative perception of the entire meal, including the root beer.
Food poisoning. In a single, serious incident reported on Yelp, one customer attributed a case of severe food poisoning to chili cheese dogs and root beer. It’s unclear if the illness was related to the beverage, but it is an extreme example of a potentially bad experience.

The staff on hand today was polite. The food was hot and delicious. The prices for the food are rather reasonable compared to a lot of other basic restaurants that offer the same food variety as the root beer stand. Being that it’s a drive-up food place and there’s no place to go inside the parking lot was clean no debris flying around. Yes I would visit this place again and yes I would recommend this to my friends and family

They have been open for 95 years and it looks like it would have looked back then. You stay in your car and it’s window service! They bring a tray that sits on your window! It was a really cool experience and incredibly cheap for the best root beer I have ever had!

No chilli it looked like pasta sauce with onions my daughter threw up the hot dog. Tbh honest she wasn’t feeling well before but after the hot dog she got sicker. I mean soon as you get the “chilli dog” you feel like you got played. I just don’t like the chilli’s dogs here neither did the rest of my family.
