20% tip AUTOMATICALLY added to any bill (small parties too!)
charge EXTRA for fries
Avoid this place 🙁
I am extremely disappointed to be writing this review. I am a long time rook customer at this point and have always loved the food here
I am super disappointed to learn they now charge $3 extra for fries with the Cutlet and cheesesteak sandwiches. What a RIP OFF. I can’t believe that. They really skimp on the fries too you get like a dollars worth of fries maybe. I checked both my receipts that I have images saved of from September 5th 2025 and January 19th 2026 and we were not charged extra for fries with our Hail Caesar wraps. Tonight we were. My friends and I love the rook so I know I’ll be back but I am pretty outraged by this. Every day I find more and more reasons just to not eat out anymore. Shame on this.
It now costs $50 for two people to get a chicken Caesar wrap with a small side of fries after tax and tip
Also we were charged a credit card fee of 3% lol. And a 20% tip was automatically added to our bill. We were a party of 5 people so I also find that a little outrageous. Giving 3 stars simply because we’ve been coming here for 5+ years and like it here, and I know I’ll be back, but dang.
The cheesesteak is chopped ribeye with cooper sharp cheese and we added fried onions. It is served in a seeded Sarcone roll. It’s crazy how different cheesesteaks can taste from one place to another and this one was so bland/boring.
For drinks, a Cosmopolitan was ordered (with extra cranberry ♂️), The Rita and Mezcal Old Fashioned.
Our mom mom ordered the Cosmopolitan and really enjoyed it.
The Rita was soooo sour. It tasted like whoever made it, didn’t know how to make one.
The Mezcal Old Fashioned….I love old fashioned drinks of all kinds…this one was rough. It tasted like what I imagine @Johnny Depp would smell like; overly smokey and leathery (sorry Johnny no shade).
The building itself was nice and so was the server.

In my opinion, The Rook has one of the best espresso martinis in the city, and Jackie makes it even better. Perfectly crafted every time and served with the kind of warmth and personality that defines this place.
A Manayunk staple that gets it right.
Amazing food and even better people. The Rook Restaurant showed our family so much kindness and support during a very difficult time while our niece was in the hospital. The compassion we received meant more than words. Truly grateful for the warmth, care, and incredible food.
Kudos to the owners! When I’m back in this area, I’ll be stopping by.
We came here again during happy hour and was delighted by the chill vibes and friendly service. Their happy hour special bangs so you should def come here then,
The food was thoroughly enjoyed especially the Brie, jam, and crisp bread. Yum.
French onion soup was good as well, and my friend stuck to his loyalty to burgers but it was good as well.
Overall good experience, will be coming back and my server was very sweet too.
She had a very detailed tattoo on her arm. Hope you get this credit you were awesome.
